So we are somewhere between chychrun and a first and ottawa realizing Ullmark will only waive for them/other teams Ullmark would waive for arent in the hunt.

Which one are we closer to and what will it end up being?
We are not going to settle for that 25 pick in opinion

If Donny pulls that off I'm gonna buy a Don Sweeney rookie card .
I will ship you some for free

Technically if its for a 1st, that opens up $5m in cap space. Maybe Sweeney likes someone on the free agent market better than what is being offered in trades.

For purely hypothetical purposes. What if it was the 25th pick and chychrun offered. Is that any different than if Sweeney likes FA tevu teraveinen and he trades Ullmark to the senators for the first and goes out and signs Teraveinen instead?

OR it could be any other FA player doesnt have to be teraveinen, just for a random example

Alright, folks. I'm going golfing for 3 days then heading on a 5 day drunken fishing trip to hunt the elusive 40 pound lake trout (My record is 38.2 pounds) - Hopefully the team looks different when I'm back.

@NeelyDan you're in charge, bud. Water the plants.
Enjoy and good luck!

Good point, I just think we are not trading him to Ottawa (in the division) unless its a deal we can't refuse.

I could be wrong

Definitely some posturing, but I think @goldnblack might have alluded to it/ nailed it earlier when they said "how long until Ottawa realizes they are bidding against themselves"

If the only team trying to trade for Ullmark, that Ullmark will waive his NMC is for the senators, then we kind of have a Taylor hall situation on our hands where we got him for super cheap because he would only accept a trade to the bruins.

If the senators are the only teams that Ullmark will accept a trade to among the teams trying to trade for him, then why would the senators be offering the markstrom deal (or more) when they know the bruins are backed into the corner of dealing him to the senators or keeping him on the roster.

Personally I think its somewhere in the middle, but would not be surprised with any result.
You're missing one difference in the Hall situation vs Ullmark. Buffalo was not a contending team and therefore gained nothing by keeping him all year, where the Bruins will compete and can easily just decide to keep him to help the team if they are being lowballed.

Ottawa needs a goalie like Ullmark more than Boston needs to trade him, IMO.

I posted this today just before 1pm

We now have the answer, haha.
You may think you are bidding against yourself until you lower your ask and another team swoops in all of a sudden. This new GM should be careful playing any type of game like that. Look no further than what happened to the Columbus Blue Jackets during the 2023 TDL with the Gavrikov/Orlov situation.

Ottawa definitely needs him more, but it all depends what Sweeney thinks. We know Sweeney’s been trying to trade him for a bit now.

I think it’s pretty clear Sweeney is done with the goalie duo and wants to free up that $5m for an every day player who will impact playoff games.Especially when the writing is on the wall for Ullmark to get 35-40 games and be a healthy scratch in the playoffs.
