Prospect Info: 2024-2025 Rangers Prospects Thread (Prospect Stats in Post #1; Updated 1/8/2025)

Looking at Northern Michigan this year. After 17 games their leading point producer has 6 points. Their leading goal scorer has 3 goals. As a team in those 17 games they've scored 19 goals.

Their main goaltender Ryan Ouellette though---1 win 14 losses 1 tie but a 2.80GAA and a .916 save %. As a team they must have some defensive structure and Ouellette must be pretty damned good. They're losing almost every game and can't score but they're not getting blown out.

With numbers like that the Rangers should give him 11.5M a year.

Laba played tonight. No points, 8/17 on FOs, 2 SOG, 2 blocked shots. CC lost 2-1 to Denver.

Let him finish out his entire college career and he can join Hartford spring 2026.

Next year Perrault and Laba all but certain to join. Lamb, Fortescue, and Larsson in 2026?
Larsson has a lot to do to show he's deserving of a contract. Not to say he's bad, he just had a mediocre year in the USHL last season and is apparently having an uneven year on an abysmal team this season. It's just way too early to say with him.

Hank Kempf would be due a contract this year. I'd say it's 60-40, maybe 70-30, against him getting a deal. Based on what I've seen.

Just because we draft a player doesn't mean we should sign him and as you say in Larsson's case he needs to show us something and so far that hasn't happened. Being on such a bad team is not helping so if Northern Michigan isn't going to get better he might want to think of playing somewhere else.

It's also up in the air whether Kempf will get a contract or not. He hasn't been bad at Cornell. The Rangers have enough looks at him by now to decide whether they think he has some chance to become an NHL player and if he doesn't there'e no point signing him.

There's also the AHL contract route--the Rangers went that way with Barbashev and NJ draftee Case McCarthy and Detroit draftee Ryan Siedem who all came to camp and weren't good enough to make the Hartford AHL team. McCarthy is up with the Wolfpack now mostly because of the Trouba trade and injuries and call ups.

Also the way he's playing I would think seriously about signing Lamb and forego his returning to Minnesota U for his senior season. We drafted him 4 drafts ago as is and he's finally become a top go to player for the Gophers.

When does he become a UFA like Fox did?...hopefully he likes NY

Fox was never a UFA ...

here is a simplified paraphrase of the situation you refer to
guys more fluent in CBA can add clarifications as needed

drafted NCAA guys become UFAs once
(a) they are no longer matriculated and NCAA_eligible NCAA students AND
(b)have not signed with drafting team by prescribed deadline
that is often Aug 15th,
but if a player leaves school mid-season that deadline may be earlier IIRC

Disappointing that Emery got cut, but hopefully he'll use it as motivation for the 2nd half of the season.

Yeah that's disappointing, but he was far from a lock. I thought based on his WJSS usage that he'd make it.

I don't know if it's that big of a deal that Emery didn't make it. It's not all that unusual for 1st rounders not to make a WJC team---it seems to happen a lot with Canadians and often enough with Swedes.

A coach is going to put together a team he thinks he will win with and some players are picked just to fit specific roles. Emery if he had made it would have had a role pretty much as a safety valve or shutdown defenseman. That's what he does right now. If the coach already has players in mind for that like Fortescue or he wants pretty much two way defenders it kind of narrows Emery's options as his game is right now.
