fortescue, dorrington, emery is a reasonable D pipeline, for the drury prototype.

jones and brannstrom are the smaller puck mover types that we don't like to play.

Dorrington is a sleeper prospect, don't write him off. One of the top TOI players in the entire NCAA and tough as a rock. I have a few shift-by-shift videos on him if people are interested. I'm pretty high on him compared to most Canucks fans and I hope he makes it to the NHL being related to O'Ree.

Minor correction here:

He's related to Art Dorrington, the first ever black player to sign an NHL contract. He's not related to Willie O'Ree.

Just wanted to give yall some trivia.

Jackson Dorrington, the guy you got in the Miller trade, is related to the first ever black NHL hockey player Willie O Ree. He’s also a really underrated prospect and has NHL projectable traits with his skating, size, physicality, and defensive IQ. Mancini replacement.

I wonder why the Canucks traded him. Seemed like overkill considering value-wise the Rangers got more even without him.

Probably just didn’t see any sort of succession plan for him considering we have a couple of LD prospects who are further ahead and have more potential.

Canucks have a lot of good “mid” prospects if that makes sense. Dorrington is someone to definitely track.

Log jam on the AHL team and he was at risk of going for the 4th year. I disagree that others were way ahead of him in development and potential. There is plenty of upside in Dorrington, he just flew under the radar here in Van because he isn't a flashy points producing player.

He's tough as nails though, loves to hit, and has a mean streak in him. First to start a scrum, last to leave type of attitude. Dorrington plays an absolute shit ton of minutes in all situations. The low point totals come mostly from the fact that NE's program isn't that deep in skilled forwards who can put the puck in the net. They also have one of the top offensive defenseman in the league on the team who takes up a large chunk of the offensive opportunities.

From a toolbox perspective, he has all the tools to be a top 4 defenseman in the league. Can he put them all together, that's to be decided. An important jump would be on how he handles going pro and if he can adapt. He's got very transferable skills but when it comes to young D it's always how they handle the speed of the game when they step up a level.

Thank you! Is he expected to go pro after this season?

Laba/CC won 3-2 in OT over Western Michigan last night. Laba got 5+a game for a hit from behind, sometime during the 2nd. Michigan scored on the ensuing PP. Haven't been able to find any replay of the hit.

Lamb/Minnesota beat Wisconsin 4-1. Lamb had an assist on the 1st goal (#17 in yellow in front of the net):

Emery/NoDak beat St. Cloud 6-2. Emery put up goose eggs across the board for the most part, +2 and took an off-setting roughing penalty as part of what looks like a scrum after another NoDak player took an interference penalty.

Nothing, as far as I know, has come from his agent or him regarding his likelihood of signing. The reason why I personally think he’s at risk of not signing is because of the strength of the left side in the NHL and AHL for the Canucks. The farm team would end up having four prospects fighting over three spots, and maybe a fourth NHL spot on LHD. This is the depth chart for the farm team next year: Pettersson (2 years), Kudryavtsev (2 years), Mynio (1 year), and Dorrington (1 year) (*years meaning the amount of time playing pro hockey in North America).

I’m not saying that Dorrington is a bad prospect because he wouldn’t rank above these guys, but those prospects are solid prospects. Pettersson is in the same mold as Dorrington but has the extra year of experience. Kudryavtsev is having a fantastic rookie season and will also have that extra year of experience. Mynio got the call-up to Team Canada, is a local kid, and is having a fantastic season in the WHL. The Canucks don’t have a great prospect pool overall, but LHD depth is the best it’s been in over a decade. Hughes isn’t going anywhere, and if M-Pettersson signs a long-term deal, there will only be one LHD spot up for grabs in the near future.

If Dorrington were to sign next year, he’d be competing for the second-pairing defense spot (assuming Pettersson makes the main team) just based on the experience of those ahead of him. Compare that to the 26+ minutes he’d play if he stayed at NE (he already plays 26 minutes right now, if I recall correctly). On top of that, if he stays, he could earn his undergraduate degree and have the freedom to move to teams that might even be willing to burn a year off his ELC. If you were him or his agent, what would you advise him to do?

EDIT: Spelling/gram

That's encouraging to hear! I was curious to see him play last night on the farm but it looks like they are keeping him up with the main team for now.
Emery and Dorrington both look like get the f out of my crease kinda guys, which is nice.
Absolutely! The first thing I noticed about Dorrington when I first watched him is that he would manhandle everyone that went close to the net. Little slashes, cross-checks, all the dirty little tricks. That's why I mentioned he was mean in my first post.

If you watch the shift-by-shift videos I made, you can see how he plays and the things he's good at. There are many things he does very well for an NCAA defenseman. Things that stand out for me are his gap control and his ability to transition the puck. Whether that be through his skating, which I rate as above average for this level, or his ability to make the first pass. He is also very composed at this level and he doesn't really panic with the puck even when under pressure during the forecheck. Maybe that comes with the fact that he’s just bigger than everyone, and people bounce off of him.

Some things that I would have concerns about are his concentration on the game. This might be a bit because the guy plays so many minutes (26+ minutes IIRC) it's hard to be at 100% during every part of the game. But I think that sometimes he can be a little bit on autopilot and roam around a bit too much in his own zone. It could also be a coaching issue where they allow their defensemen to roam from position a lot, but that won't transfer well into the pros and will need to be changed, in my opinion. (This is also why I think it would benefit him turning pro next year)

All that being said, I am not a pro scout. I made those play-by-play videos so that others on the forum could see and make up their own minds on how he plays, so I would refer back to those if you guys want to form your own opinions. These are just my opinions at the end of the day.
