Prospect Info: 2024-2025 Rangers Prospects Thread (Prospect Stats in Post #1; Updated 1/29/2025)

BC scored 2 empty net goals (both Ryan Leonard) and Gabe got an assist on the 2nd one, giving him 3 assists for the game.

He's up to 31 points in 22 games. He's still a bit below his pts/game average from last year, but he has 7 points in his last 3 games.

Isaac Howard also scored 3 points tonight, leading the nation with 39 points in 25 games. Gabe will be hard-pressed to catch him at this point.

Laba had an assist on the only CC goal. I think he went back this year hoping to do some damage but CC kind of sucks.

Henricks, Larsson, Kempf, and Karpa were all scoreless.

Lamb was also scoreless. I haven't watched him recently to see what going on but his production has dried up. He's been several games without a point now.

Scoring is down in the NCAA this season. Gabe is still 3rd in the NCAA in points per game with 1.41. He ended last season 3rd as well.

Goalie stats are insane this year. 24 goalies have over a .920 save %. 13 have under a 2.03 GAA and 40 under 2.50 GAA.

I think they dropped Lamb down a line for a bunch of games. It seemed like he was with Snuggerud at least most of the season. The reason for that? I don't know. Maybe trying to spread out the scoring. If that was a goal though it didn't work.

On Snuggerud, does he want to play in St.Louis? Shocked he did not sign this past summer. What is the story with him? Is he like Gauthier, Hayes, Vesey and others that does not want to play on the team that drafted him? Would he be available? Fills a need at RW. Teammate of Perreault at USA camps. i hope Lamb gets signed this summer. I wonder how his game will translate to the AHL. Not that familiar with Lamb. Top 6 or bust type?

I would assume he wants to play for the Blues. He's from Minnesota or the midwest and playing for Minnesota U. which is in Minneapolis and St. Louis is a midwestern city.

But really I don't know any stories about him. Lots of college players stick around because they like campus life. Not everyone is all fired up to go out into the world to work for someone they might even end up not liking....maybe he's really really interested in what he's degreeing in. Maybe he's sticking it out for that elusive college championship. Lots do. Lamb is a junior at Minnesota U too. Maybe he's thinking of another destination than the Rangers.....or even Laba. Laba's a Detroit area kid. Maybe he'd really prefer to be a Red Wing. These things can just as easily work against us.

With Snuggerud, I think part of it is because he had a "down" year as a sophomore.

When he was a freshman, Minnesota had Logan Cooley and Matthew Knies on the team. Snuggerud put up 50 points in 40 games. Those players left and Snuggerud dropped to 34 points in 39 games as a sophomore. I don't claim to know what he was thinking, but I can imagine he wanted to show that he could lead the team.

This year, he has 37 points in 28 games, 9 more points than any other player on the team. Mission accomplished. I fully expect he will sign with St. Louis when his college season is done.

Barring some sort of rift with St. Louis, I doubt they'd have any interest in trading him. If anything, they'd be looking for help on defense, which isn't something we have in abundance.

yeah but you're frequently shocked
and you think the only thing that matters at all is a (not really existent) straight short line to the NHL

as much as these Minny kids dream about playing NHL, they also dream about being Gophers

the college hockey experience is fun and fulfilling and also one of the best preparations for a pro hockey career

him not signing earlier w Blues doesn't necessarily mean anything at all

Yeah.....generally speaking most college players stay with the team that drafts him. I would say at least 90% if not more of the time. Not sure what happened with Cutter Gauthier but at least for the Flyers he didn't play out his college career and leave them with nothing. It was kind of the Adam Fox scenario only Fox was more specific about what he would do to get to his chosen destination. He was a Rangers fan growing up.

The Rangers have grabbed a few guys who forced their way on to the team. Fox, Vesey, Hayes but it's not always us that gets the player and it doesn't really happen that often.

Again I would assume that Snuggerud is just fine with the Blues organization and I highly doubt he was ever a Rangers fan so why we would be his chosen destination is not clear.

Very often, it's a simple calculus between staying in college and playing in the AHL. All of these players want to make it to the NHL, but most would rather skip the AHL entirely, particularly the higher-end prospects.

McGroarty played 2 years in college. He asked for a trade because he thought he would be blocked getting to the NHL with Winnipeg. He got his trade and still ended up in the AHL. Maybe he would have been better off going back for another year in college.

His numbers in the AHL this year are decent given his age, but probably less than most people expected following his success in college. By comparison, Othmann put up 49 points in 67 games last year. McGroarty is pacing for 39 points in 67 games. Sykora, who was taken 49 picks after McGroarty, is pacing for 34 points in 67 games on a worse team.

Would Snuggerud be playing in the NHL right now if he can gone pro last summer? Maybe. Or maybe he'd be riding the buses in the AHL like McGroarty.

I think everybody does. Wheeler probably hasn't seen him play since he was in the WJCs (when he was actually quite good FWIW).

In fairness, it’s really hard to keep on top of every teams prospect pools as well as upcoming picks for anyone. There’s only so much time in the day. I’d imagine there’s fans of all teams that pretty exclusively follow their team’s prospects closely that are more knowledgeable, especially when it comes to lower profile guys, assuming they know the game. I can see where chmelar would be a guy that sort of gets profiled as org depth in a net as wide as what he’s attempting to cover.

I haven’t seen a ton myself, but personally i’ve very much gotten the impression there’s an nhl future for him. Hes got a size/speed/physicality package with some underrated skill, and what i really like is i’ve seen him show a nastiness that you can’t teach at times. To me he brings a lot of the same things as cuylle…definitely less polished with defensive details and doesn’t have his shot from distance…but the raw tools are there to become the type of bottom 6 weapon who can become a nightmare in a 7 game series.

Yeah, I don't mean to shit on Wheeler. But he's a generalist.

The majority of posters on HF are more dialed in with where their team's prospects are at than Wheeler would be, and what he has to say about them is little more than a talking point.

If you just want to take in some general info on a bunch of prospects across the league, then guys like Wheeler are valuable resources. If you want in-depth analysis, you're going to the wrong source.

Agree, didn’t take it as shtting on him personally, but i def think some people have overly strong reactions to him to any prospect writers takes if they’re anything but glowing endorsements. it’s all about perspective, and it just not being realistic for someone trying to cover that volume of players at the depth some are expecting. Like you said, it’s reasonable topical takes and creates talking points, but outside the biggest names, he’s not going to have unique insights or highly informed assessments.
