Yeah, but we also have a tough schedule, with Dallas, Toronto, Tampa Bay, Florida, and New Jersey. We could easily lose all 5 of those and not really be on us choking, as those are all among the top teams in the league. I won't be surprised to see us go 1-5, or 2-4 the rest of the way.

Schedule strength gets tricky at this time of the year. It's a time where Buffalo goes on winning streaks and some teams that have nothing to play for (standings wise) can go on a slide (like Washington right now)

I think we already see what schedule strength will mean.

A lot of contenders have already secured the playoff spot, and are taking easy at this time. Carolina did look uninterested and Florida had those heavy resting yesterday, was giving their depth players a chance to adjust in.

This is giving easier games for Red Wings, those team records (for schedule strength) will mean nothing at the moment.

Montreal is the only do-or-die game left. Others are all "taking easy" playoff teams, we could win them all, if they have this attitude to take easy.

vs. CAR - win (Carolina had secured a playoff spot 1 game earlier)
vs. FLO - win (Barkov, Tkachuk, Bennet, Reinhart, Ekblad, Forsling, Bobrovsky missing or resting. That was ~50M of cap value off from roster)
@ MTL - Do or DIE.
@ FLO (could be same roster resting/injuries game 2, as yesterday)
@ TBL (secured playoff spot, could be uninterested)
vs. DAL (has secured playoff spot, and almost the opponent too, Colorado)
@ NJD (has secured the playoff spot, and opponent too, CAR)
@ TOR (could be totally meaningless game for TOR on last round)

We basically have to win the rest of the games.

If we defeat MTL in regulation, we are still 4 pts back. It is unrealistic to expect MTL to lose all their remaining games, so we probably have to get at least 8 pts in the last 5 games.

Yeah.

1. Must win in regulation (vs. MTL)
2. One game in hand and that's a must win.
3. Then have to collect 3 points more than them from rest of the games.

It could be that this season was really lost in Lalonde-coached Montreal games.

21st and 22nd December, two back-to-back losses with 0 points. Montreal got their season-first 3-game win streak going on and it was turnaround for their season.

Lalonde was fired after that.

With McLellan, we have won the only game against Montreal. Tomorrow is the 2nd game.

You would probably only need 2 more points then them as Detroit would probably hold tie-breaker

we’re gonna lose and go back 9points and people will say we still have a shot
we still have a shot

rangers and islanders eliminated today. we have the furthest to go but it's doable

we have to win 3 games, at least 2 in regulation

montreal has to lose 3 games, all in regulation

columbus can go 2-1, but the loss has to be in regulation

we play dallas on monday. if they lose today or winnipeg wins today, they'll be locked into their position and could decide to rest some guys before playoffs start

we play new jersey on wednesday. if they get at least 1 point sunday or tuesday, or if columbus loses once on sunday or tuesday, then new jersey will be locked into position

we play toronto on thursday, they have 3 games before then. if they go 2-0-1 then thursday's game will be irrelevant for them

Keep dreaming man lol. Montreal needs ONE point and we have to win every game and need CBJ to lose another game. It's over.

i mean, you guys said it was over all the way back on december 27th. some of you said it before game 1

and yet there are 3 games left and we're still not eliminated. i don't know what you gain from assuming we'll lose but you don't know that we will until it happens. i'd rather believe in my team

I gain a realistic outlook? We are like 97% eliminated? I rounded up to 100%. You can't fault me for looking at a team that is clearly not good enough or deserve to make it.

a realistic outlook? kinda like all the people that said kasper could never be effective at the nhl level?

columbus deserves it more? they've had losing streaks of 6 games, 5 games, 4 games, 6 games. montreal - 4 games, 6 games, 5 games, 5 games. neither team has won 7 games in a row, we did it twice

You really think we are going to defy all odds and logic and get in? Like you really believe it?

i don't pretend to have foreknowledge of the future. i know for a fact that it's not impossible. and i'm for damn sure not going to root for my team to lose games before they are eliminated

if montreal loses tonight then i'll really believe that we can do it

I'm rooting for Montreal to lose just to make it interesting but my hopes are way down.

If Montreal loses tonight their cheeks at least get a little tight. Young and inexperienced team you just never know. Highly unlikely though

Habs got a point.
