Hmmm Claude second fiddle to Monty's "anti system system." It's going to be weird for Claude IMO.
Claude with his structured system IMO is in direct opposition to whatever it was that Monty was doing here.
Did Monty allow the B's to flounder so that he would get fired and go back to where his "wife was happy?"

Odd pairing indeed.
Claude will lose whatever hair he has left.
Well. The only way we see St. Louis again this year would be in the finals.
Rumors had it his wife wanted to go back to St. Louis, if true he should have resigned rather than force Boston's hand to fire him.
This explains a lot about his body language behind the bench and post game comments.
So with that said, good luck to Monty and F U and good riddance at the same time.
He should have been gone 2 years ago.

totally wondering out loud if Claude doesn`t want to be a HC any longer and as he`s older now, he`s AOK not having to handle the burden of being a HC these days?

Makes you wonder, The Bruins got played by this clown.
Played? The guy had a win percentage of over .700 and was expecting to not get hosed in negotiations. Wouldn't be surprised if this is what led to him looking more out of touch than he probably was. Hard to do anything when you're a lame duck and the organization clearly doesn't have faith in you given they couldn't agree to a new deal.

Maybe he wasn't the long term fit, fine. But Sweeney and Neely still bungled this like everything else their big, dumb hands touch.

Ask Washington how well this strategy worked after they let Barry Trotz walk just after the cup win.

Did you not watch him coach in the playoffs?

I'm so sick of the talk of Monty being some amazing coach.

He sucked in the playoffs both years here.

He had Boston in position to beat the Panthers in 2023. Not his fault the players blew multiple leads in game 6, then a one goal lead in game 7.

And frankly beating Toronto last year was probably more than people should have expected.

He kept playing a clearly injured goalie who kept letting in easy goals.

He broke up Bergeron and Marchand.

He let Bergeron come back in game 5 before he was needed and clearly wasn't healthy.

He let them chase a record instead of focusing on what matters in the cup.

Could they have won anyways. Yep, players are not blameless either, but he looked absolutely lost and had no answer to managing the game, the refs and got dummied by Maurice.

And last year, he (and the rest of the team frankly) did nothing to win that round. Swayman stood on his head.

I don't have a problem moving on from Monty, as he lost the team. i don't like the revisionist history like he didn't do a good job here.

He made some mistakes, but the biggest was probably letting Bergeron play his las game in Montreal, and I don't think any coach would have stopped him. And it was just ridiculously dumb luck.

Just so much bad luck to have one of the best teams ever and then lose because of an awful run of injury luck at the wrong time

I don’t say this to give credit to the narrative you are opposing, but it doesn’t really make sense to credit Montgomery for the result of the first four games and then draw an arbitrary line after they start losing and say “okay, well those ones are on the players”. Why would the opposite narrative (“the players put Montgomery in a great position to win after 5, but then he blew it in the last three”) be any less valid of a statement? There’s no actual quantification behind either point.

From my perspective, the first half of his first season was the most consistently strong I’ve ever seen an NHL team play. The breakouts were out of this world, the offensive zone cycles were pristine. Almost every single player was playing beyond expectation. He has to get a lot credit for that. As far as the rest, I think there were plenty of question marks. He never got the team back to playing with the kind of energy they showed during his 40 games with the club. Is that his “fault”? I think it would be far too simple minded to come to that conclusion, but I do think the overall context of his 2+ years here made his dismissal not all that crazy.

He’s also known as a “players coach”. When things start to go south, I do think there is a bias (right or wrong) to really pressure a coach like that to correct things more so than some other coaching styles. If connecting with players is his calling, you don’t expect to see such a breakdown in confidence that I think we’ve witnessed.
