Yakemchuk is exactly what the Ottawa Senators need; a scoring threat from the back end. He's our Chychrun replacement, hopefully with a bit better defensive awareness. I think he'll make the team next season.

It was his first game back from injury. Probably need to cut him some slack. His season has been much of the same of what got him drafted. He has been better in his own end and is putting up close to the exact same number of points to last year.
His team is also doing much, much better than anticipated, with Yak as their top D. That cant be overlooked.

Ottawa has five promising prospects in their system at the moment.

Ostapchuk C/LW IMO has already made the team & should be a permanent player next season.

Merilainen G is on the cusp of becoming the Sens backup. I expect in the off season that Staois will either find a cheap vet backup or maybe he lets Merilainen be the backup. Should be interesting how that plays out, but my guess is he signs a cheap backup & have Merilainen & Sogaard in Belleville for another yr.

Halliday C/LW (22 yrs old) is an interesting prospect, he seems to have the skillset to be a decent NHL player. He certainly has the size & I expect he could get some time in Ott later in the yr if they are in a position to dress a prospect or two. He's 27 pts in 35 games & 10 goals, not great, but not terrible either & leads Belleville in scoring. Is scoring down in the AHL too as it is in the NHL?

Yakemchuk RD will most likely start his career in Belleville next season & depending on how he does down there could be one of the first callups next season.

Montgomery LW is having a great yr in junior with London & I expect he too should most likely start his pro career in Belleville next yr too & be a callup depending on how his season goes in Belleville.

Yakemchuk scores a PP after 7 mins of tonights game

For some reason I first read this as “Yakemchuk scored with his PP” lol. Good for him to get back into the groove after missing games.

BMO is a force to be reckoned with, all he does is score points.

Very excited to see their progress.

I can see them signing a goalie for league minimum this offseason maybe even Forsberg if he agrees to it and give Leevi the backup job. Have that third goalie there for insurance in case the workload of the NHL becomes to much for Leevi and you need to send him back down.

I watched most of both games; his skating looked significantly better compared to the games leading up to the injury. He appeared lighter and less heavy-footed, although it's definitely still a work in progress.

The Calgary Hitmen's power play (PP), when Yakemchuk was either absent or injured, operated at about 14% early in the season (over 5 games) and about 15% during his recent injury (over 7 games). I think this is a large enough sample to suggest that Calgary struggles without Yakemchuk on the power play. Overall it is 20.9%.

For the first time this year, he is back in his proper role as PPQB. Yakemchuk is good in the Ovechkin role, but I prefer him up top. They have Mynio and Kindly playing the half-wall, and it looks to be working, with them going 3 for 5 last night.

Yakemchuk has been paired with Mynio, and I think they will be awesome together.

Yakemchuk made some high-level stretch passes in both games, but there was no finish.

He also made some unforced errors and weird mistakes that need to be cleaned up.

He needs to go on an offensive run or this season will look like a bit of a disappointment. He is extremely talented, but his production could be better and should be now that he is surrounded with some better talent.
