That ranking really means very little

I don't know if it "sounded" like that but was just giving up the info, that nobody here had him on their radar just a few months ago.

Beckner is having a very good season for a 19 year old 7th

I wouldn't say "very good" but not too bad actually, he's 18th in scoring among u-20 drafted prospects.

I think it's a lot more than we could have hoped from a 7th rounder. Ryan Dzingel had 24 pts in 33 games in his first college season so maybe we get a legit prospect here so yeah he deserves to "rise up the ranks" for now

Yes, I'm just looking at numbers, but I'd put Blake Montgomery at 2.

Kleven isn't a prospect anymore, Halladay has good hands and vision, but lacks speed, strength, and defensive awareness required to be an NHL player (Jaraventie part 2?), and Ostapchuk has 4th line upside.

Montgomery is the same age as super-prospect Easton Cowan, and has the same PPG on the same team.

When your prospect pool is very weak after #1, Monty seems like a good #2 to me.

(Merilainen would be #2, but I'm not considering him a prospect anymore, I think he's done with the AHL).

Agreed, I'd have Montgomery just after Yakemchuk now. Merilainen definitely #3. Ostapchuk and Kleven are graduating

There's a big drop after that Top-3 IMO.

* Merilainen has 11 NHL games, as good as he has done for a few games, he might still go back to the AHL due to contracts once Ullmark is back. He's still going to be a prospect until at least next season.

Don’t sleep on Javon Moore. It’s his first season outside HS hockey. Big toolbox, I’m thinking he may have a very good freshman season next year.

Yes he was the guy I was the highest on last summer, thought he could do what Montgomery is actually doing. So maybe next season.

In the meantime, my Top-3 is pretty clear

Yakemchuk
Montgomery
Merilainen

After that it gets harder to rank them. How far does Sogaard drop? Does Reinhardt rise? What about Donovan? Etc.

Reinhart is 4th line upside. Depth guy, I would even list him. Sogaard is on pause until he can stay healthy. I also think Halliday is someone you hope has a great finish to the year and gains some trade value as I don’t see a place for him.

You mean you would NOT even list him?

If we're not listing him, it means :

- we're not doing the same thing as other fanbases on HF that rank all their prospects.

- we could pretty much only do a Top-5 ranking then because that's the state of the pool right now, Reinhardt should easily be a Sens Top-10 prospect.

I’m just speaking of my way of viewing what a prospect is. Everyone in their draft - draft + 2 season is a prospect.

For players D+3 or later I ignore AHL/NHL tweeners.

ok that's weird, never heard of that "way" before.

I prefer to stick to consensus, because it's impossible to deal with everyone's unique way of "seeing it"

Don’t get me wrong, I understand the list is something to do during the offseason to keep the talk going. In my mind we have 5 prospects from drafts prior to 2023

Donovan
Guenette
Leevi
Reidler
Halliday

My rankings: projection for the next few years.

1) Yakemchuk: Potential first pair defenseman at the NHL level
2) Merilainen: I'd put money on him being full time with Ottawa next season and continuing to get better
3) Montgomery: Exciting prospect; size and skill, lots to like
4) Halliday: Hasn't lived up to the hype of last spring but I still believe. His underwhelming stats might have more to do with a lack of support down in Belleville.
5) Sebrango: Didn't look out of place in his recent call up
6) Reidler: Playing behind a vet in Omaha and hasn't been given a lot of opportunity but I am optimistic. Need to see how he does in Belleville.
7) Reinhardt: gritty 4th liner; seems hungry to make a name for himself
8) L. Thompson: Having a good season in Sweden, you never know
9) Eliasson: Skeptical that he'll be able to play fast enough in the NHL, but that size and reach are intriguing and he's still very young
10) Crookshank: I still like this prospect; hasn't lived up to my expectations but I still like him

I consider Ostapchuk graduated. I think he'll be full time with Ottawa from now on and will continue to get better at the NHL level.

PLayers that I was high on but have dropped out of my top 10:
Donovan: bad first AHL season.
Sogaard: no longer a believer. He's a deer in headlights in the NHL.
Andonovski: last season seemed to be a stepping stone but he hasn't progressed.
Stanley: same as Andonovski

Edit: I forgot Mantinpalo. At 26, he's not really a prospect anymore but he's been solid for us as a depth player. I feel like he could be a full time bottom pairing guy next season.

Hamara's having a good season. Maybe because he's too old compared to his peers, but I think I would slide him right behind Sebrango on your list. Mind you, I haven't seen him play so I might be totally off-base.

I have never been high on Hamara. I think he would get killed at the AHL level.

The other guy I forgot about is Guenette. He's a guy that should be in the top 10. Solid defensively and until this year, he's been putting up points in the AHL. I should swap Guenette with Thompson.

That seems very arbitrary. Leevi is in his D+5 season. Ostapchuk who hasn't graduated is in his D+4 season. By that logic Kleven was on your ignore list last year?

- Sebrango has progressed nicely I guess but 5th on this list is why it's a sad sad list.

- I know the Sens still hold Lassi Thomson rights but I'm pretty sure we have cut ties with him.

- Angus Crookshank turned 25 y/o in October, not a prospect anymore. He's a career AHLer now

- Reidler 6th? He barely played this year.

- Agreed about Ostapchuk, he already has 39 NHL games and should pass the 65 games mark by the end of the season.

- Matinpalo is like Gaudette, Highmore, Crookshank... they are all over 25+ and are guys that have or will split their time between the NHL and other pro leagues. Sometimes there's a guy like Kovacevic who ends up sticking around at 25 y/o (or older), maybe it will be the case for Matinpalo as well.

Agree with everything but Reidler. He’s a freshman who has played 5 games but his numbers align with their starter.

Yakemchuk still out injured, looks like Abramov is injured as he has'nt played in CSKA's latest games.

Andonovski still leading the PM race with 84 pm's and Eliason close behind with 80 pm's

Montgomery tied for team lead in goals (18) despite playing less games than most.
Him and yakemchuk are the two I’m most excited about rn.
Both could be some of exactly what we need in Ottawa.
Size, strength, skill, net drive.
