So Montgomery is 9th in G/GP so far in the OHL

Guys in front of him :

Misa : future Top-5 pick in 2025?
Lardis : 67th OA pick in 2023 (Hawks)
Sennecke : 3rd OA pick in 2024 (Caps)
MacDonell : 189th OA pick in 2023 (Stars)
Pinelli : 114th OA pick in 2023 (Jackets)
Rehkopf : 50th OA pick in 2023 (Kraken)
Protas : 75th OA pick in 2024 (Caps)
Greentree : 26th OA pick in 2024 (Kings)

Montgomery was drafted in 2024 and was an overager so only Misa, Sennecke, Protas and Greentree are younger, others are in the same age range. That's gotta be promising

I can post the players in the order of points but i cannot post the actual stats, to see the stat you have to click on the player name.

This site update has been total garbage. It's crazy. We've gone back to the stone ages. The avatars are whack, text doesn't line up. The ads literally just cover the posts. It's near unusable on mobile.

That said, the sens young ins showing some things. Which is great to see as we really need some of the guys to over deliver on expectations.

B.Mo may truly be a player. Not worried about his overage year. He developed late in hockey to begin with. He's got drive and caring levels you can't teach. That's gonna take him far. How far is to be seen but he's potentially a solid middle six contributor in the making

People often talk about no depth in this organization & yet Merilainen comes in & passes Sogaard on the depth chart & is making Forsberg expendable or given them a reason not to re-sign him. Ostapchuk comes in earlier in the yr & pretty much has earned a regular job, if not this yr then next yr for sure. He's got size, toughness, speed, is very good defensively & is decent in the faceoff circle.

Matinpalo comes in & looks better than Hamonic & although I think Yakemchuk ends up next to Kleven sooner rather than later, Matinpalo has proven he can be a decent injury replacement. Meanwhile Halliday is back to form & I imagine that by this time next yr he will be the next young guy going up & down from Belleville & filling a niche. Even Highmore & Reinhardt have not looked out of place, MacEwan does what we need him to do & Kleven as a rookie is having a strong season & getting better every game. They have some decent depth.

Feels they’ve got a ton of depth for the 4th line. We need more guys who can “move up and down the lineup” and contribute on the top 3 lines.

We have a good amount of bottom line and pairing depth, but we need more skilled depth. Yakemchuk, Montgomery, and Halliday are our only skilled prospects, which is concerning.

Isn't that what Perron, Amadio, Gaudette are suppose to be, top nine fillers? I would add Ostapchuk, Greig & Cousins can also fill into the top nine but I think you mean a goal scorer or point producer which again Perron was suppose to be of all those guys. Gaudette putting up 13 goals was unexpected & helps.

I think Ott has two guys in their org who could both be pt producers in time with Halliday & Yakemchuk & I have proposed that they sign a UFA like Boeser RW to replace Giroux. Who do you think they should pursue to fill that need in the top six/nine?

I don't think that is concerning because our best players are in their mid-twenties or younger & should be around for a while & as we add good & better players should only improve the team.

That is also what happens with NHL teams as they age, they usually get better & usually start drafting higher which reduces their skilled depth. They also need to get lucky with some later picks who surprise as Batherson has. Ottawa has good young depth & are still adding one or two good young players per yr. Replacing Giroux & improving the bottom six is probably their biggest need.

we don’t have skilled depth because we traded 7 , 12th overall and totally burned 10th overall. Three straight drafts. Not because we are aging

To be fair one of those turned into Ullmark and another one Jensen. Both are significantly more valuable to us for the next while than picks. But we also don't have a first in one the next two drafts, so there's that.

Staios will have to be very savvy for us to not experience a dip after the contracts start expiring in 3 years.

Perron is definitely supposed to be that guy. Big loss IMO.

Amadio I haven’t been a big fan of, too vanilla.

Gaudette I don’t trust as much as I’d like.

I’d like to see them add someone with good speed or size who can contribute on the PK.

Greenway is one guy I’d look at once he’s back from injury assuming we can keep close to the playoffs.

Yakov Trenin would be amazing.

Mikheyev would be interesting as well, even if overpaid.

Colton Sissons, Brandon Tanev and Noel Acciari are more bottom liners but would be good adds.

Right but we still don’t have skilled depth lol.

I think we would have acquired Jensen anyway probably for a much lower cost.

But yeah. No firsts essentially for 3 years. That will kill any possible callups to play any sort of meaningful minutes and contribute at forward

We kind of run into all the same problems with those guys tho. As soon as they have to fill in beside Stutzle. Or beside Norris and tkatchuk, they become extremely frustrating.

It’s tough to find adequate targets with the realistic cap space available. The top three I think would at least add an element which we would be lacking. Greenway and Trenin contributing size, physicality and defensive acumen which would give more flexibility when we move Tkachuk off Stutzle’s line. Mikheyev gives an interesting option because he can actually keep up with Stutzle. Would be fun to see him with someone who can actually go off to the races with him.

If the Sens are unable to move on from some players due to contracts we could see a similar team although I expect them to slowly insert a few rookies into the lineup during next season. The 3rd pairing RD spot will be interesting with JBD, Matinpalo, Yakemchuk & Guennette all fighting for that spot. 3rd line LW & 4th line C spots should also be up for grabs. If Perron gets hurt again I would put Ostapchuk to play with Stutzle & Giroux to bring some size, muscle & front net presence to that line.

Tkachuk - Norris - Batherson
Perron - Stutzle - Giroux
Greig - Pinto - Gaudette
Ostapchuk - Halliday - Amadio/MacEwan

Sanderson - Zub
Chabot - Jensen
Kleven - Yakemchuk/JBD

Ullmark - ???/Merilainen

It is absolutely concerning.

After the big 3 :

Giroux 0.65 PPG
Norris 0.58PPG
Gaudette 0.45 PPG
Pinto 0.40 PPG
Greig 0.33 PPG
Cousins 0.32 PPG
Amadio 0.30 PPG
Gregor 0.17 PPG
McEwen 0.14 PPG
Ostapchuk 0.10 PPG

Giroux and Perron are 37 y/o and Perron has barely played and has 0 point. Gaudette is 28 and has no scoring history outside of 2019-20. Our forwards had comfortably better PPGs last season, outside of the big-3

Once Giroux and Perron age out (which is happening RIGHT NOW), all we'll have is Stutzle, Batherson, Tkachuk, Norris, Pinto and Greig. No one else has proven they can provide good Top-9 offense.

We have a very little number of skilled prospects. It's fun and all to play tough but you still end up losing the game if you can't score goals. I'm hoping Staios can pull another rabbit out of his hat like he did with Ullmark.
