Came for the power tool ecosystem talk and stumbled into the landy update.
This is what happens when a millionaire chooses poor people tools. Dude should be all Makita, Hilti or Festool... yet is like black friday special from Home Depot. Kind of like the current Avs' lineup.

We should be focused on getting the rest of the guys back… Lehky, Nuke, JD, Wood, Rosco. Anything that comes out of Landy is just a bonus. It shouldn’t be consuming our discussions like it is. Just give him the time he needs.
I've stopped talking about this topic because the emotions on this forum run too high at times. Not believing in Landeskog's return is a no-no in here.

But I've long felt that Landeskog won't make it back, aside from perhaps one playoff run (thought that might be last season, maybe it's this one though) where he plays through the pain and takes one more shot at it.

Then he'll retire from hockey, go get a partial knee replacement, and live a totally normal life.

All of that said - and with all due respect to the captain - people asking the question "When is enough....enough?" are asking a legitimate question. They should not be poo-poo'd for asking it.

As sad as it may be, at some point, this situation has to end.

Here's the thing... Landy in no way should be expected to walk away from his contract. That is what retiring would do. Any fan having that expectation is being unreasonable. Calling him selfish for trying and collecting his check, is this weird judgement and expectation. It is selfish as a fan to expect Landy to walk away from >30m... it is really bizarre stuff.

Secondarily, I know people will point to LTIRetirement and such... which is exactly where the Avs are today and last year. His status hurts them from banking space, not having it. They have operated like he's not coming back (beyond the daily banking stuff going on). And with that status, he can and should be allowed to exhaust his options to continue his career. He earned his contract and the terms within. It should be on his terms, not anybody else's and per the CBA, that is exactly what is happening.

TLDR, if Landy LTIRetires tomorrow, it doesn't really change anything from what is happening today.

I recently though he would come back by December or January, now I think that’s never going to happen in any month or year.. He can continue to collect his check and let people have false hope he’s coming back. That’s all fine and good for him but he’s not even skating now which is a HUGE red flag he had a set back.

Mentally I’m moving on like he’s retired

If by July 2025 he hasn't so much as skated a single shift then I'll think he's well on his way to Robidas Island.

And there are people here who think he should just up and retire? Walk away from that money!? What the actual f***, people, NO ONE in here would do that if they were in his shoes.

Last year they spent his cap space on other players for help. This year they couldn't. That's not the same thing.

Imagine if guys like Price or Weber had that mentality.

They are doing it now… ~81m in current. ~6 coming with Nuke. That’s practically the cap right there. With Landy we’re talking well over next year’s cap. The reason we are below today is Nuke.

Weber dealt with things for years and years prior. LTIR is the same cap situation as today though. Doesn’t change a thing.

If Landy’s not coming back half way into the season like January, just keep him on LTIR and use that cap space to get a player and get Landy back in the playoffs if he’s good to go… and if we make the playoffs of course
Here's the thing...he's going to need at least a dozen games just to shake off the rust (if that's even possible at this point).

Since the team is trying to win now, I agree with spending his cap space (preferably on a goaltender) and finally giving that locker room a captain.

If he comes back CMac will have to make decisions.

Who would you name as captain of the Colorado Avalanche?

Neither of MacKinnon or Makar seem like the traditional types of captain personalities.

I'll speak for others here too: I don't think anyone expects him to do that. We simply, perhaps wrongly, assume that if a player has a career ending injury, they will go to LTIR and still get the money. Correct me on this if I'm wrong.

He can still get his money. The treatment of his roster spot and cap space would be the same as today and last year.

Sakic didn't either and he was fine. Should be Makar if he wants it.

The last time this locker room had a captain in the regular season was in March 2022. We're in November 2024. More than 2.5 years later and we don't even know if the guy is coming back. That's enough.

Team needs a #1 goalie, a captain, two top wingers, and a #1D.

All with no cap space to do it.

Master class in failure.

I never thought he was coming back Especially watching those skating videos. I was listening to the Locked on Avalanche podcast the other day,and at the end both guys were talking about skating videos from Brenn an Vogt where Landeskog was skating fast, backward, the whole bit. They predicted that he was coming back.

I searched pretty thoroughly for these videos. I didn't find anything.

I remain skeptical.

Glad I'm not the only one who very specifically noticed the Ryobi...

The power tool market is wild. Recently left a Japanese company in a different industry that designed, engineered, sourced, and built nearly everything in the US. Now at power tool company that buys everything from companies in China, slaps a 100+ year old American name on it, or relabels it a second time and throws an even bigger name on it.

And yet the idiots screaming on Youtube that the Japanese company's products are made by foreigners (they aren't) will eat our Chinese junk up on Amazon.

I'm honestly just shit posting. Milwaukee, Rigid, and Ryobi are all made by the same company (TTI). There are differences, but some of the stuff is remarkably similar beneath the skin. IE the new Ryobi brushless drills are basically the Milwaukee model from ~2020. They just build Ryobi to a lower price point and use the bit older tech.

The only two companies that are really top notch still are Makita and Hilti. Even Festool has gone downhill and Dewalt is no better than Ryobi anymore (F'ing Stanley ruining every brand they touch).
Milwaukee and DeWalt are about equal now with both going down hill considerably for the last 20 years. Hilti is overpriced garbage and I’ve used just about every tool they make. Ryobi 20 years ago was not so bad now it’s pretty much Harbor freight level. You get what you pay for in most cases. Trades are extra hard on tools. In the old days they had professional lines and homeowner lines. Now it’s all just one line of plastic throwaway garbage.

I only use Milwaukee tools. Why you ask? When I first started buying my own tools I went with a Milwaukee and it came with a free battery. And because batteries are so f***ing expensive, that's the ecosystem I live in now. Also the Milwaukee repair shop has always given me great customer service.
I second this, i use them every day, all day, heavy use. my 1/4 impact is about done but I’ve had it 8 years
