Any reported Landeskog sightings out there? Maybe he's in Sweden skating under an assumed name and number?
Exactly.....nada....nothing....still can't believe I thought there was even the slightest chance he was going to play in last year's playoffs. I am assuming there were setbacks, and he is getting 5th and 6th opinions.

If you watched that Amazon documentary he basically gave up his leg to win that cup. He can take as long as he wants.
Unfortunately, in the end this is still a team-sport in a hard cap-world.

And there will come a point were he is either in, or not. This cant go on for a 3rd year... As much as i love Landeskog and with all my respect towards his sacrifice, but our window is allready closing (or is nearly shut) and there has to be clarity soon.

Fans get enamored with players like Landeskog, Nichushkin and Rantanen without realizing that they'll never see another 1D/1C combo like Makar and Mackinnon ever again.

Getting the best D and the second best C in the league, in their prime at the same time, was a one time deal and most franchises will never get that in their entire existence. We couldn't let other players hurt their chance to win more than a cup but we did and still do.

A lot of people here just accepted to see our window closing soon and waste 5-6 years of Makar's prime in the process. IMO that's straight up unacceptable.

The structure, contracts, and ages around it make this an inevitability.

Different styles, but this is Doughty/Kopitar 2.0. Kopi was 26 and Doughty was 24 when they won their 2nd Cup. They looked to have a lot ahead of them and people labeled them as Cup contenders for years and years moving forward. The structure around the team though and the contract situation caused the depth to erode while they kept playing for the next 3-5 years instead of that year. Then after 3-4 years it was quickly realized they didn't have nearly enough anymore and had to re-tool as quickly as possible to have another chance with Kopi and Doughty. Which we see the results of that now.

The time to re-tool was the summer of 23 at the latest. Now the only thing the Avs can do is continue to try to push. Right now, the Avs are in the situation of the 17-18 a good, but not great team with some star players and little depth. If they try to rebuild now, odds are much higher they end up like the Kings did (or frankly worse).

God I love this "window is closing" bullshit. Look at other supposed contenders around the league. It's not that much better with us. The whole "window" is an overused meme.
Fact remains that teams tend to win Cups in certain age ranges and have certain pieces needed. When teams get outside those age ranges and they can't retain pieces, they tend not to win Cups.

Sure. But then you look at the other "contenders" and their main pieces, and they are pretty much the same age as ours. So that's why I find this whole talk tiresome. It would be one thing if Chicago, Montreal and the Sharks were already entering their prime contending window with their young stars. But they are not, they just shit.

Edmonton was supposed to be (and probably still is considered by many) as the prime contender from the West. They have the oldest team in the league.

I am concerned by our drafting, and what happens with Landy and Nuke. But other than that, we are still in a pretty good place.

The fact is that if a organization is run competently, they are actively looking to fix these issues before they pop up. The also get some draft luck and pick up players that fit the system they have in place. Other than drafting I feel that colorado has all of that. We fix that we will be fine

Every year, new teams enter the fray that were not expected... and in one specific year, outliers can exist at the top of the league. Certainly though, Cup winners are very frequently in a fairly narrow range. When you zoom out 3-4-5 years from now, the Avs are certainly going to be outside of that range. So whether it is this year or 2027, there is a point where that window is shut on this team. A point where the excess contract value has evaporated and the top players cannot sustain their level of play.

I believe that the Avs have to push as hard as they can to win now. The window may be shut now or still open... you just don't know in the exact moment. So they have to push. Delaying another year or kicking off a rebuild would be unwise IMO.

I mean it's obvious the Avs are not a contender in a 3-4 years. But we are talking 3-4 years.

The bolded made me chuckle. Yeah, it's like the chances of winning a lottery... 50%. You either win or don't win.

So what you're saying is the window is closing. ;)

Yeah it's nothing like that though. Lottery is 99.99999% chance of not winning and pure just a regressive tax on poor people that is based on the whole idea of hope... and it could happen. Wait.....
