Landy is just 32. Give him the off season. Let him come back during pre-season, and start the year when there's WAY less pressure (probably on the bottom 6 somewhere), and work his way from there.

Mackenzie Blackwood would like a word with you.

Umm. Necas + Drury + cap space for a money hungry Rants is working out great, too

Never let it be known that I say the dumbest things sometimes when trying to prove a point.

I did not mean to infer that CMac has never benefited the Avs with his moves. I actually feel like he hasn't really lost one until now.

What I'm alluding to is all the roster movement and shuffling of deck chairs for the lower lines. He brings in Parsnips to play 3C. Bednar used him as a second line winger and then just trashed him. Bednar brought in Drury, and again stated... I think he can give us the 3C the team needs. Bednar played him 4C for several games.

Y'all keep coming in here with tales that we've got a physical specimin... one who plays the body and will help when we get pinned. All I see is a guy who hasn't spoken with Jared Bednar yet.

CMac was kind of all over the place in his comments about Gabe. Sounding optimistic, then more pessimistic, then sounded like he believes in him.

I think focusing on that "you can see where this is going" comment would be a mistake.

I'm a bit more pessimistic than I was before hearing CMac talk, but also I don't think he'd be saying things are going good, that hopefully it keeps going well, that he believes if anyone can do it Gabe can, and that everyone is rooting for him, if he thought he was done. That would just be setting everyone up for disappointment. And CMac knows a lot more than us.

Here's more context for his comments on Gabe.

Landeskog Update

"Gabe continues to rehab. I think things are, you know he's doing good, he's grinding hard every single day, but I don't foresee him joining practice in the next day or two or week or two here. So I think you guys can figure out where this is kinda going, but hopefully it'll keep going well."

Asked if his comments are a sign he might not play this year.

"Yeah, there's a chance. I mean obviously I can't predict the future, but he continues to rehab. He's not practicing with the team yet. It's 2.5 years and you're not practicing with the team in early March. We're gonna continue to take it week by week here, but he is grinding, he's doing everything he can. It's just I didn't think June 26th, 2022, the injury would be three years. So there is no playbook here. We'll just continue to chip away at it, and he's doing everything he can. That I know. So we'll see where it goes."

Talked a bit about how difficult it must be on Gabe, then...

"For me I hope it's gonna happen for him, but obviously it's been a while. But if anybody can do it I think it's Gabriel Landeskog. I think not only me, Bedsy, our players, our organization, I think the hockey world wants to see it. You wanna see him get back out there and see how he can do. I think everybody's behind him."

With the exception of his age being 32 now instead of 31, you have basically brought up the same argument I made last spring/summer.

Look, I want Landy back and truly believe that the skills he brings to the table are skills that will still translate at a 3rd line level if that is the best he can do. But... here's the kicker, the Avs left the door open for him to return last year. They've left the door open for him this year as well. If he's not on the ice and playing this spring/summer, I really do believe both Gabe and the Avs would be better off just having a doctor declare his knee unfit. The Avs are juggling salary cap and trying to manage both Gabe being out of the lineup for 2 f***ing years along with needing to retain enough cap flexability to reactivate my dude when he says boo.

Honestly, if Gabe still isn't ready to go, I'd like to see Bednar put a C on a new player for game 1 of the playoffs.

IMO I'd like to see them keep it for Gabe, in case he can come back this playoffs.

If he doesn't come back, then give it to Cale next year.

Offer it to Nate first, but I've always thought he'll just pass it off to Cale. He's more of that steady emotional presence you need in a captain, and a better fit for the media obligations.

If Landeskog comes back, I wouldn't expect his on ice contribution to be major but he might bring something to the team beyond that. Teams like to have someone to rally behind and win for. EJ and Cogs got to lift the cup before Mac in 2022.

You can take the word "might" out of that sentence.

This will be Nate, Cale, Toews, Val, Lehky, Manson, Girard, and LOC out on the ice, after seeing Gabe come back from a shift giving his all. These guys know how important he is to the team and how much he'll have went through to get back. They're not gonna wanna half ass their shifts after watching Gabe.

Most likely outcome.

Doesn't mean that it would be the wisest choice though, my personal opinion is that nobody should think about placing a C on either Nate or Cale's chest. They both have enough to deal with just trying to prepare themselves for 30 minutes a night. Asking them to plan outings, excursions or even looping the rest of the team into a group text chat when Mikko was traded is entirely out of their reach.
