I'm not speculating on what the injury is, other than to say - if it's his hip, I'd almost prefer he doesn't come back. The list of elite players changed and/or plagued by trying to come back too early from a hip injury is one you want to stay far away from.
From personal experience, I had a contusion (pointer) that I didn't rehab properly and tried to get back skating...that led to groin issues, which led to a labrum strain and on and on.
Toews, Nash, Landeskog, Seguin, Karlsson...I believe, all started with varying hip issues as a root.
All this being said, I'm not suggesting its hip. Watching that replay, you could convince yourself it's a knee thing, a back thing, a rib thing, or even an organ thing. Just airing my hip anxiety.
