I think JT Miller is the odd ball out of the Vancouver fiasco.
While I think Miller is the odd ball out purely because of his willingness to waive, shorter term, and lower cap hit, there are some talking heads out there that think both could go. Essentially, if the locker room has factions, then what do the "followers" do when the one on their side gets moved. There's still resentment. It's just a mess.

All that to say is that I would be listening on Miller over Pettersson. Miller is a prick. Has a chance to go sideways but in the short-term, I think our locker room could benefit from a prick--someone who could drag the boys into the fight. Obviously equally likely that his attitude concerns don't translate well, but I'd take the risk depending on what the ask is.

The only thing curious about Kessel is that Leddy is skating, but it does make sense that we'd want 7 healthy dmen anyway, and Springfield is currently in Iowa for a few days and then back to the east coast.

Might as well sit Leddy for the rest of the year and get younger defensemen some experience

The Leddy situation is weird. Strickland was on his radio show a week ago saying that he personally talked to Leddy, who told him that he’s ready to go and wanted to play last week.

I guess the Blues aren’t convinced he’s ready, or are worried he will have another setback soon. I don’t know.

Either way, I don’t really want him to come back this season anyways. I wouldn’t really like it if Broberg was our only young d-man in the starting lineup. I’d like to keep one of Tucker or Kessel in there too, and I think they provide an element that we need.

I think we have another Krug situation. Leddy probably has a chronic injury that he's played with but it's severely limited his mobility. And like Krug the fix probably means a long layoff or retirement. Blues probably want him to get surgery and he's refusing.

I have been of the mindset for awhile that we need to be focused on the future and stop trying to compete. I am looking at potential moves for anyone over 27 and moves of young players/prospects to balance out our future. I don't know how strong the evidence is of NJ or LA being willing move Nemec or Clarke but if they are I am looking very hard at bringing on of those two. Imagine this as a future Dcore

Broberg - Nemec/Clarke
Lindstein - Jiricek

I don't know what it takes though? Buch? Parayko? Our 1st this year?

I wouldn't move Parayko for Clarke or Nemec. imho. I would hope we could get either of them centered around Buch or our 1st and a Prospect like Bolduc.

Ideally I would like to keep Parayko in a mentoring role.

f*** it. Buch for Nemec. Our first for Clarke. Run this in the future.

Lindstein - Clarke
???? - Jiricek

While it probably won't happen b/c Armstrong will refuse to take a step back but I would definitely explore the market for Fowler at the deadline...w/ Petersson off the board there aren't many options for contending teams looking to shore up their blueline. A lot more teams will be able to afford his cap hit next yr with the new figures coming out. I read somewhere a lot of buyers are running low on first round picks so maybe we could pry a quality prospect from someone. I think two playoff runs out of legit top 4 defenseman at a not unreasonable cap hit would be attractive for a short-term thinking GM.

Id look to move Fowler if we could get a decent return for him. If we could trick someone into taking Faulk that would be nice

Army is a little guilty of speaking out of both sides of his mouth. On the one hand, he talks about chipping away at the core (alluding via trading them). On the other hand, he is all about a retool instead of a rebuild.

Thomas, Kyrou, Holloway, Schenn, Buchnevich, Broberg, Parayko, and Binnington are the core players.

It makes zero sense to trade Holloway and Broberg.

Schenn might have a little value but I’m comfortable with the opinion that Army highly overrates him.

Parayko is the only top 4 RHD and playing his best hockey.

He just extended Buch.

Maybe Army views Faulk in the “core” and his tenure with the Blues is on the line. Even if that’s true, the return isn’t going to be that much.

I don’t think Binnington has played bad enough to warrant being traded based on performance.

That leaves Thomas and Kyrou.

Trading one would certainly shake up the roster. I know Thomas is always thought of as untouchable. Is he? Everyone understands he’s the team’s best C. I think some teams might be willing to overpay though.

Would you trade Thomas to Buffalo for a top 5 pick, + Byrum, + Helenius?

I would go for an overpay like that. I don’t see Army making him available though.

Kyrou would have a high return but I think the odds of teams overpaying for him compared to Thomas are slim.
