The Frederic speculation is that there might be mutual interest for obvious reasons with Frederic & the Blues when he becomes a free agent this summer...has nothing to do with Saad. Boston should get a healthy return for Frederic if they believe he's not re-signing and want to move him at the deadline...Freidman said there is a lot of interest leaguewide.
How healthy of a return are we thinking here? Frederic is a bottom 6 player on an expiring deal. He definitely brings some grit but I can't imagine him fetching a ton. He only has 11 points in 32 games.

I think a lot of Blues fans (not necessarily you) are overrating Frederic quite a bit and I certainly wouldn't move any high-value assets for four months of him.

I think I’m afraid of that deal due to Tanner Jeannot’s first deal. He went for so much (effectively 2 firsts) at 25 with one 25 goal season. Frederic has two almost 20 goal seasons and can flex into the center slot.

I think maybe Boston has this one shot and they’re gonna maximize it for themselves. I’m not sure I want to do something like bolduc plus for him or whatever the ask would be, but that’s my guess. They’d want like more than a first and they’d also want something that impacts the nhl. Who knows tho. Always about what kind of market exists and how many folks want the player, what Boston actually covets.

If he were cheaper than that sign me up, but it feels like a deal a surging contender would make versus us.

I wasn’t advocating trading for Frederic, they were talking about him on 32 Thoughts this morning about his price tag if he’s dealt and Friedman was speculating there would be a lot of teams interested. I would never give up an asset for him when we can theoretically sign him this summer. I was referring to the potential mutual interest as free agent between the Blues and Frederic bc of his STL ties and the Monty connection. But I agree I tend to think he’d be too rich and we have plenty of young talent on the wings.

I'm not holding my breath on a good Saad return. Probably a late 3rd or a bottom 6er akin to Texier or Joseph. He's not doing us or himself any favors out there this year.

I like the style of player, but frankly, I don’t think we need to be adding more of it currently. I also don’t think there’s much value into putting him into the center position. He took 280 or so faceoffs last year and has taken 70 or so this year. That’s about 3-4 per game. And he’s been pretty lackluster on the draw. Pairing that with him slotting in at wing frequently makes me believe he isn’t much of a center. If we didn’t have Neighbors or Schenn or he was a definite center I’d have more interest. Frankly though I’d rather the Blues not sign him on the UFA market as is. We’ve geared towards team speed and adressed that this offseason and it’s made the offense flow a lot better (at times you see a bit of the old) in general.

I don’t think Matthieu Joseph is a great player by any means, but I don’t think he’s a bad one either and he’s got a bit of bite to his game.

In summary: I guess I just don’t really see a spot for Frederic aside from 3C and I don’t think he’s much built for that spot. I’d much rather let Sunny continue to fill that role until the offseason and try and adress it then. Our depth at wing is pretty good right now and I don’t feel like it makes much sense to pay to add another one especially given the Snuggerud situation potentially being in play for late this year.

People tell themselves that if a St. Louis born player comes to play in STL he will be better than what he has shown so far. They feel it, and they project it onto the player. Then the player is pretty much the same player he already is. And if that's going to be the case here, I am not too interested in Frederic. I don't see any special reason he will level up. What he is and has been, not interested in that type of player. Boston fans know hockey and they are bored with this guy, they are like fine have him.

A rich man's Logan Brown is still not great
