Why would the Bruins want Saad?
They wouldn't. I'm pretty sure that the Bruins would want futures at this point. I don't think Kimzey was actually proposing a Frederic for Saad swap, it's more like he was just describing the level of player we should realistically expect in return. I just answered because I really like Frederic. :)

what about Toronto for saad?

Got the Berube connection.

They probably don’t expect Pacioretty to sustain 15-16 min a game for a whole season.

Therefore they probably would like some dirt cheap secondary scoring on the left side.

McMann seems suited for the 4th line role.

Maybe we can pry something out of Toronto. Maybe it can be a little better than what we were going to get if we retain and give them a nice cheap secondary scoring threat for 2 years.

He would have to be willing to waive to go there. You never know; he might.
I would ask for a 2nd. Being that it will likely be a high 2nd, I don't think that is unreasonable.

Agreed, also wonder what their plan is with Robertson? He seems like someone who could benefit from a change of scenery and fits the timeline

If Saad is traded to a playoff-bound team, then it would be a mid to low 2nd unless the receiving team doesn’t have their own 2nd and has a bad team’s 2nd from a previous trade.

Maybe the Toronto McCabe transaction is a nice guiderail if Saad moved to Toronto. Maybe a deal expands slightly.

McCabe was a similar depth contributor moved with a little term and retention. I think most would look at McCabe and think he is worth maybe around a 2nd, kinda a fringe top 4 d relative to others, not offensive, not magical, but then the deal expands, there is some retention, and the prize became a 1st. Is also nice that tor then signed the guy so you’d maybe guess this path left a good aftertaste.

“Blackhawks trading Jake McCabe, Sam Lafferty, a 5th in 2024 and a 5th in 2025 to Toronto. Maple Leafs’ 1st in 2025 (top 10 protected), 2nd in 2026, Joey Anderson and Pavel Gogolev coming back.”

Saad retained, toropchenko for mcMann/whoever B- prospect, some dump, and a future equivalent to a first? Idk something like that. I’m not into moving torop but if gmda can pull a 1st out of Saad then I gotta reconsider.

Even with the cap expected to go up at a healthy clip, I'd assume the second year would be a problem for contending teams up against it without retention and that doesn't seem to be Army's thing.

I don’t dislike Frederic, and I think it’d be cool for him to come home, but I would just prefer an actual center coming back in a Saad deal.

I’m sure we’d have to add a little bit to get it done, but we already have too many bottom six wingers as is.

Who knows though, maybe the plan is to use Holloway at C until Dvorsky is ready. I just like him more at the 2LW spot next to Holloway and Kyrou.

I can see a few angles on interest in Saad. He's a battle-tested vet forward who has performed well in the playoffs. A playoff or bubble team hoping to make some waves could do worse if they're looking to batten down the hatches for a run. I could also see a struggling/rebuilding team seeing the upside in getting a guy with almost 900 games to stabilize their group and "play the right way." I think he's the kind of guy the GMs of the league would like a lot more than the fans do.

Whatever ends up happening there, I hope we manage to get a draft pick out of it. We only have 3 this year, and it would be nice to re-stock that cupboard a bit.

The Frederic speculation is that there might be mutual interest for obvious reasons with Frederic & the Blues when he becomes a free agent this summer...has nothing to do with Saad. Boston should get a healthy return for Frederic if they believe he's not re-signing and want to move him at the deadline...Freidman said there is a lot of interest leaguewide.
