I also don't really see why we would covet Frederic. I like the way he plays the game. But at some point we have got to start filling the net. I think we have a good base of guys who are high compete, culture builders more or less. What we don't have, and it's painfully more clear right now are shooters and playmakers aside from our 8 million dollar men.

I feel like you have to toe a fine line between being a pain in the ass to play against and having guys that can generate offense. And frankly I wouldn't say that any 3 of our generators are elite enough to carry a line on their own of those identity guys.

If the cost is low I can totally see the avenue to giving him a 1 year shot, especially with the injuries. But we are already up to our nose with 35-45 point players who play the game hard, i'm not sure adding another will push those guys to 45-55 point players.

If Frederic wants to come here as a UFA on a reasonable deal, I'd be fine with it. There will be spots open in the bottom 6 next season and current players in the bottom 6 that should be healthy scratches. I wouldn't give him anything crazy, but I'd be one of the teams reaching out.

I don't see why a team that has too many 3rd liners and lacks enough top line talent and a true 1D would spend UFA money on another 3rd liner.

Because we need both. At a bare minimum, Faksa and Kap will need to be replaced, and we should look to upgrade guys like Sunny and Walker. If we can't acquire top end talent, we shouldn't just not pursue bottom 6 upgrades.

As much sense as it makes on paper, I don't see how we'd replace Parayko, and that 2 year turnaround turns more into a 5 year turnaround which is what they seem to be trying to avoid.

You're also putting a whole heck of a lot of stock in a College defenseman becoming a true #1. I really like the player, but those expectations are setting him up for failure.

I think best case scenario given some unforseen circumstance in which we draft top 3, we pick a guy like Hensler and internally develop a guy that's closer to a Willander, because the chances of developing a guy like Parayko is pretty slim. You just don't see high end skating big RH defenseman come around too often. I certainly don't see how we do it in a manner to have us contending prior to Thomas being 30+ and Buchy being in the twilight years of his career.

In J-Bo's later years, he was exactly as good as he was healthy. Remember he was a whipping boy for a long while until he could finally play healthy for a couple of seasons. I think Parayko will be the same. He'll be great to have around unless he's playing through bad injuries, and there's no way to predict that.

We do need both. But one you can acquire pretty easily at any point of the year typically at a lower cost of either asset, draft capital or cap space. Frederic is probably going demand 3-4m AAV next offseason for 3 or 4 years assuming he turns his season around.

He’s not going to fix the issues we currently have, I just don’t see a large reason for it, unless it’s extremely cost effective. I have no doubt he’d fit in with our group. But we really need an elevator.

Agree, I think he’ll age perfectly fine when healthy and assuming we can dial down the extreme usage. His skating is surely going to go a bit, but there’s a lot there to work with. I’m sure he’ll be a whipping boy and follow along the long lineage of productive vets like Bouwmeester and Leddy.
