Even an old and busted 2c that’s only got 1-2 years left I’d be willing to pay a 3rd for. Would I rather pay more and get a solid young 2c for the future? Yes, but i think the price for that would be drastically higher and not worth. Getting a stopgap center to even things out for the next season would do a lot to keep us floating in the fringe playoff team range

By 'old and busted 2C' do you mean a guy who used to be a 2C but is now barely capable of being a bottom 6 C? Or do you mean a guy who is currently capable of being a 2C but is so old that you should expect a massive fall off a cliff next season?

I don't think that anyone is trading a current 2C capable player for a 2026 3rd rounder unless we have to eat multiple years of bad money, which I very much don't want to do. And if you mean a guy who is no longer capable of playing 2C, then I don't see how that helps our current situation.

I have no interest in being a 'buyer' for a short term center solution. I'd be happy to acquire a young center that could be part of our long term plans, but I doubt that there will be any/many such opportunities for that mid-season. I assume that Army is keeping his ears open for young D and centers that could shake loose, but I doubt anything actually materializes.

With the Thomas injury, I'm pretty content to let the current roster sink or swim (assuming it will sink) and then see what kind of futures we can obtain before the 2025 draft.

I think I would be alright with them going with a super low cost acquisition like a Dvorak if the cost was a mid to late round pick to try and help the younger players at least play to a better standard. But in general I'd agree, there's a good chance that if we continue to spiral but Holloway/Broberg some of the younger guys continue to play well, a guy like Matthieu Joseph solidifies a spot as an energy bottom 6er a few things along those lines and we get a top 10 it could be a blessing in disguise

That sounds like the exact definition of a mercenary, and the type of mindset I DON'T want our young players to emulate. Rather they fight like hell and fail, with young guys getting big roles, and build on that next season.

Clearly this is not saying he's being shopped, but if he is...lots of reasons for the Blues to have interest. Like the rest of the Bruins, he's off to a terrible start — but he could hold down the 2C spot until Dvo is ready, and slide down to become an IDEAL 3C.
I'm not much of a buyer that he is an NHL center. He hasn't been one so far in his career and Boston isn't exactly flush with centers. He kind of strikes me as another 'winger that we could maybe try at center.'

I assume Boston would either be looking for a current NHL center or a 2nd+ in order to move him.

Armstrong would pay to acquire Frederic if he is available, I assume the Blues would be in this mix somewhere

Fair point. Last year was his first real crack, for sure. He's sub 50% F/O percentage, but I think his game maps more to a C-role than Buch/Holloway, for instance. I don't watch Boston a ton, but I was under the impression that his first real foray as a C was extreme trial by fire, post Bergeron retirement.

I would like Frederic on the team but I don't see the Blues and Bruins being able to work out a deal that makes sense given that they have the same need at C.

Sign him in the offseason. If he signs elsewhere, oh well. Not really interested in giving up any important pieces to get him.

Probably not much, I'd rather just try to sign him as a UFA. If it doesn't work out, oh well

Yea, he's a pending UFA. Why spend assets for pending UFA?

Even if it's contingent on a contract extension, he hasn't yet had success as a C at 26. He's ideally a 3rd liner. I wouldn't hate it with a cheap acquisition cost if he immedeatly signs a short term contract at a hometown discount, but better to just hope he hits UFA.

Thoughts about Parayko for Tom Willander as a base at the deadline?

I'd consider it if we're in a full "re-whatever"(not sure we still are).
Lindstein-Willander already have established chemistry. Running them out as your 2nd pairing for the next 10 years(with Broberg anchoring the top pairing) would be an amazing rebuild of the defense in a very short time.

Having said that; the next move would have to be for a BIG, physical Right Shot D man to plug next to Broberg long term(Mrtka in the Draft?). That is a ton of skill on one blueline, but it's registering on the "charmin scale of softness".

I'd want something else coming over with Willander before I'd actually pull the trigger; but that would be an incredible move to kick the rebuild further along.

How does Vancouver make the money work?

I don't see how this trade would be possible without at least 25% retention on Parayko. Vancouver could probably make it work for this season without retention by sending back Desharnais, but taking on Parayko's full salary would prevent them from extending Boeser next season and/or create a massive crunch when Demko's deal is up in a couple seasons. Looking at their cap structure, I just don't see how they could take on Parayko without significant retention from us.

Having to eat 5 more years of dead cap by retaining on Parayko really changes the math on that type of deal.

That Eckman-Larsson money hurts. I think the decision about the cap would come down to how Vancouver’s GM and staff view Parayko. If they felt he vastly improves their chances at a Cup run, then they take the swing, and figure out the cap on the fly.

I don’t think Army is trading Parayko even if the Blues tank. I still like to imagine possibilities.

As much sense as it makes on paper, I don't see how we'd replace Parayko, and that 2 year turnaround turns more into a 5 year turnaround which is what they seem to be trying to avoid.

You're also putting a whole heck of a lot of stock in a College defenseman becoming a true #1. I really like the player, but those expectations are setting him up for failure.

I think best case scenario given some unforseen circumstance in which we draft top 3, we pick a guy like Hensler and internally develop a guy that's closer to a Willander, because the chances of developing a guy like Parayko is pretty slim. You just don't see high end skating big RH defenseman come around too often. I certainly don't see how we do it in a manner to have us contending prior to Thomas being 30+ and Buchy being in the twilight years of his career.
