Even an old and busted 2c that’s only got 1-2 years left I’d be willing to pay a 3rd for. Would I rather pay more and get a solid young 2c for the future? Yes, but i think the price for that would be drastically higher and not worth. Getting a stopgap center to even things out for the next season would do a lot to keep us floating in the fringe playoff team range

By 'old and busted 2C' do you mean a guy who used to be a 2C but is now barely capable of being a bottom 6 C? Or do you mean a guy who is currently capable of being a 2C but is so old that you should expect a massive fall off a cliff next season?

I don't think that anyone is trading a current 2C capable player for a 2026 3rd rounder unless we have to eat multiple years of bad money, which I very much don't want to do. And if you mean a guy who is no longer capable of playing 2C, then I don't see how that helps our current situation.

I have no interest in being a 'buyer' for a short term center solution. I'd be happy to acquire a young center that could be part of our long term plans, but I doubt that there will be any/many such opportunities for that mid-season. I assume that Army is keeping his ears open for young D and centers that could shake loose, but I doubt anything actually materializes.

With the Thomas injury, I'm pretty content to let the current roster sink or swim (assuming it will sink) and then see what kind of futures we can obtain before the 2025 draft.

I think I would be alright with them going with a super low cost acquisition like a Dvorak if the cost was a mid to late round pick to try and help the younger players at least play to a better standard. But in general I'd agree, there's a good chance that if we continue to spiral but Holloway/Broberg some of the younger guys continue to play well, a guy like Matthieu Joseph solidifies a spot as an energy bottom 6er a few things along those lines and we get a top 10 it could be a blessing in disguise

That sounds like the exact definition of a mercenary, and the type of mindset I DON'T want our young players to emulate. Rather they fight like hell and fail, with young guys getting big roles, and build on that next season.
