I thought we'd possibly ship out Texier if we had a chance to.

Wishful thinking was moving the 1st for one of the NJDs young defenseman considering they now have 0 room for them to make it on the roster in the next 2-3 years

I forgot that dude existed
94 pace is sneaking into the playoffs. I don't care about getting our as kicked in the first round. 5v5 #s are cherry picked to discount our awful special teams. And we lost Parayko. We should have sold.

I don't know how anyone can explain this to you since you clearly don't listen to f*** all anyone says. Playing important and meaningful games is one of the most important part of developing the young players and creating team chemistry. Look at Buffalo or Ottawa, hell even Edmonton. No progress in like 10 f***ing years of their rebuild but Edmonton as soon as they got a chance to play games that meant something they improved drastically. Snuggy should be coming to join us soon as we may have a chance at him playing meaningful games right from the get go. I know you wont read this and if you do you wont understand it anyway so go cry about professionals doing professional things instead of listening to a self absorbed narcissistic hockey forum poster.

Standing pat was always an equal chance of doing buying or selling, so I don't understand why some here or other places online are disappointed or shocked. I'll expect moves in the summer.
I think disappointment in doing nothing is a fair reaction. Everyone wants the team to do something good on draft day, whether it be a move for now or the future. If it doesn't happen, of course it's disappointing.

had enough of army.

no trades, no getting rid of kyrou, did not even weaponize all his millions in cap space to help our club in the future.

Kyrou and Necas aren't remotely comparable contracts though. Kyrou is under contract for 6 years after this one while Necas is under contract for 1 more year and becomes a UFA. It was extremely clear that he was going to leave Carolina as a UFA next summer if he wasn't moved. The absolute largest part of a Necas for Kyrou eventuakl swap would be the additional 5 years of term. I don't think that Nikishin would be on the table for Kyrou, but going from Necas to Kyrou would be a massive upgrade long-term.

Yes, but the poster was talking about how the fanbase was freaking out about being in a worse spot for the playoffs than they were before. Trying to capitalize on the Canes' fanbase reaction, which I get. But Necas was locked up for this year. So in the shorter term, it's a wildly similar situation. In terms of longer-term, they will have Stankoven locked up for even longer than Kyrou is.

Very underwhelming to not do anything. I get not buying in this sellers market but there are cap desperate teams and we have 18M in deadline space. Even if the player that gets sent here as a dump doesn't see a single shift in a Blues sweater.

What are you doing Doug?
There have been zero salary dumps from contenders so far this deadline. No one is giving you assets to take a cap dump unless they need to clear up space for other moves. There have been zero trades with 3rd party retention. No one is giving you assets to retain cap space unless they need the cap for something else. So far, none of the buyers have needed to pay a team to take money.

If there are a slew of last-minute deals involving 3rd parties getting paid to take money/cap, then I'll be very annoyed if we aren't one of them. But if there aren't, then there is really nothing we (or other non-contenders) can do to force teams to pay for dumps.

What players were moved as cap dumps today that Army could have taken advantage of?

Would’ve been nice for them to do something but this always seemed most likely. I’m just glad they didn’t spend anything to bring someone in. I’m incredibly skeptical that they do anything more than just barely miss the playoffs without Parayko, but this is the course they’ve charted.

Right, having extra cap space really wasn't an asset this deadline, it wasn't necessary for 3rd party teams to retain or take dumps. We are short on 2nd and 3rd round picks to move for small adds, and deadline prices were expensive today, and that's not even getting into how adding really doesn't make sense for us. And for selling, sure I would've liked to have seen Faksa traded for whatever, but that's not a big deal. Maybe we had something with Toronto for Schenn, but he didn't want to go there.

Schenn's value will still be there in the summer when his full NTC becomes limited. If we were talking a big deal with Buffalo or someone else, it's another thing that makes more sense at the draft.

Let's see how Broberg performs in a bigger role, hopefully Snuggerud gets some minutes at the end, maybe someone gets minutes on a call-up, and hopefully Springfield goes on a run.

I get the idea that Armstrong probably just let everyone know that if you need a 3rd team for cap purposes we're open for talks and no one has needed it. What the f*** else do you expect him to do?

Didn't Broberg play #1 RD for the Oilers last year in the cup finals? Also, we still have Leddy to fill the LD hole we would have with Broberg playing RD

Last few minutes here any smoke anywhere?

My only issue with this is this seemingly was the mindset on the back half of the season last season when we were justifying giving Bannister the head coaching role.

It's hard to hear the same story again and look at it through rose colored glasses. I understand Monty has a longer track record than Bannister did as a coach and I'm not trying to downplay the difference. I just don't trust this roster has it in them to get out of the inconsistencies.
To be clear, every underlying metric is substantially better than it was post-coaching change last year. Here are the numbers under Bannister last year:

5 on 5: 23rd in goal differential, 30th expected goal percentage, 29th in scoring chance percentage, and 31st in high danger chance percentage.

All situations: 17th in goal differential, 28th in expected goal percentage, 27th in scoring chance percentage, and 28th in high danger chance percentage.

The turnaround in play in front of the goalie is dramatically better post coaching change this year than it was last year.

I don’t get what assets Boston wants from Florida for Marchand. Kinda lame. Kinda was thinking they couldn’t do it because what can they pay with. We’ll see I guess. Kinda tired of Florida in general.

What deal did you want Army to broker?

Also, how did you want him to use the cap space?
I want him to hand out some more full NMC's and extend a couple guys in their 30's. Then do nothing and say Awww shucks we could not reach a deal.
