Kess and Peru have been disappointing but PO Joseph has been a nice surprise for me so far this season, I like his game. Nice move by Army to snag him.

I was hoping for a redemption arc with Perunovich where he scores his first goal and goes on a run but boy, thats not looking likely lol. AHL depth/waiver fodder at this point.

This is the only one I can find with the tink.

This is the angle and range of the shot, but my memory was that he made that shot off a pass almost immediately. Not a slapshot, but about as fast. But the angle and pipe down is right. This is how I remember it looking.

I’m still missing that reaction shot from the bench. I’m wondering if they showed it again in replay and added that, later in the coverage.

Thanks for digging up the clip!

I looked at all the Tarasenko goals as a Blue vs Ottawa and Calgary (there are surprisingly only like 20 or so) but that was the only one with the Tink I could find between the two clubs.

I am hoping Kessell will find his game. Peru, I don't want to see him in a Blues uniform again. Just can't defend against much bigger and stronger players.

Speaking of young defensemen, I’m also out on Matt Kessel. I know he has some fans on this board but he really offers nothing to the lineup. He’s been downright brutal to start this season as a giveaway machine. I feel that he doesn’t have much of an identity as a player either. He’s not an offensive guy nor a shutdown guy. His physicality isn’t consistent. His hockey IQ seems lacking to me - he seems to be prone to the same mistakes that I saw from him all the way back in development camp. He’s a 5th round pick so it’s not a big deal but I can almost guarantee he’s going to be just like Perunovich and Tucker, that we thought he might take that next step but instead he’s not even going to be on the team next year.
I've been as high on Kessel as anyone, but agree with you that he has not been good so far this season.

Think you're giving up too early on him tho. He's only played 47 NHL games and there is still plenty of time for him to develop. It wasn't just fan/media hype, he was legit good last year IMO. He may never be more than a bottom pairing guy, but he can (and I think will) be a lot better than he's shown so far this year.

I wonder who gets the call up for Thursday if Kapanen is out? They only have 12 forwards right now.
Probably nobody, they only need 12 forwards for that game. I’d guess they’ll just get home and evaluate how long Kapanen/Joseph will be out and then figure out what they need to do from there.

Seems like I’m conflating 2 goals in my memory. Pretty sure that last video is the instance I’m remembering. It was like he was the only one moving for that split second and then the puck was in the net.

He was legitimately good last year. He has not started well and the most obvious instinct is that there's nothing settled on the bottom of the Blues D and he isn't getting comfortable. In order for him to be effective his IQ has to be engaged and he has to outthink his opponents to give his body a chance to get to the spots first. I don't see confidence in him the same way he had it last year

I think being in and out of the lineup has been a negative for he and Joseph. Guys need some amount of leash to play through things. Honestly, I think we have too much depth on D.

Oscar Sundqvist, love that guy. But he is not able to skate fast enough to be in the NHL, it is over.
He's always made up for his skating with his +stick and good positioning, but I agree...it was a noticeable lag, last year. It's an even bigger one, this year.

Tough going when he gets burned and Faksa is the other skater attempting to make up ground.

He's a guy I think they would love to have in player development if that's a route he chooses to take.

This was Joseph's 6th straight game in the lineup. He was the 4th LD on the healthy roster and only played 1 of the first 4 games. But he's played every night since Leddy was placed on IR.

Kessel played 6 of our first 7 games (scratched in Vegas in game #3) and then got healthy scratched a couple games in a row before being re-inserted back into the lineup last night.

I don't buy that the issue is too short of a leash. Joseph is currently getting plenty of leash and Kessel got a perfectly fine amount of leash to start the year.
