I'd put the Blues in a buyer category now. However, not even sure where I would look to improve the roster at the deadline.

It had been 2C going into the season but the top 6 is rolling right now. Don't think I'd want to break up the line combinations. All three pairs on defense are solid. Good problem to have I suppose.

3rd line Center is the obvious weak point.
Love Sunny, but he could easily do what he's doing from the 4th line. You've got to put a real(productive) center between Bolduc and Joseph if you want to do anything in the PO's.

Over his last 24 games, Sunny has 11 points. While it's a weak spot, it's not like any random guy would actually be an upgrade.

Not willing to pay that kind of price or pick up that kind of cap hit.
I'm looking more at what might shake loose after the "Big Boys" have made their headliner moves(Geekie, Turcotte, Domi, Roslovic types).

In those 24 games mentioned above for Sunny, he has a 5v5 GF% of 64.72% and xGF% 51.96%. He has the 2nd lowest xGA/60 at 1.8, his linemate Joseph has 1.6.

This is why I say there isn't much that would be an upgrade that we'd be willing to give up assets for, he's been that good defensively. Would Dvorsky be an upgrade? No shot, and that's nothing against him, but you just wouldn't get anywhere close to same defensive results, and it's not like Dvorsky will walk in and pace at 60+ points.

Bolduc, Sundqvist, and Joseph have only had 66 minuts together during 5v5, but their numbers are fantastic. 2.67 xGF/60, 1.87 xGA/60, and their actual results are just about the same as their expected. To me, they've earned the right to be the 3rd line down the stretch. Those are the types of numbers we want from them.

I think he probably comes here. Connection to the city and the coach, and I think we'd have genuine interest in what he brings.

And that Sunny 3rd line has a PDO of 100.5, so it's not like they are on some crazy unsustainable streak, and they aren't getting sheltered minutes either.

But that's a lot of money to put into a bottom 6 LW when you need help at center.

And to continue my thoughts on it, and it's still somewhat dependent on the results of the next 2 games, but if we get 3 out of 4 points, and I was Army, after the LA game on 3/5, I'd tell the group to not expect any moves, this is the group that will make a push for the playoffs. You guys responded to my challenge and forced me to not trade everyone. Sometimes a trade can boost morale, and sometimes it's telling the group that everyone in this room is the reason why we got back into the fight and you all will keep the fight going.

At just a quick glance, I think it's just us and the Caps with 2 unique lines on that list. Wild for example have Rossi and Zucc on both lines, Columbus has Voronkov and Marchenko. We seem to be hitting our stride at the right time.

1- Offensively, they would be.

2- I'm not married to that specific list. I'm looking at players in the "If Team A get's playerX, then playerY becomes available" category. Domi and Roslovic are just examples of guys who fall into that category.

I think there's even a chance he becomes our TDL add. DA may do it knowing we plan on locking him up long term. With his current injury, if we can pay something along the lines of a Ralph, a Kos or a Jecho tier prospect, i see this as a real possibility. Would depend on other teams and how much they would bid on him. If we are able to add him now or in the offseason, An eventual 3rd line of him and Neighbours would be a fun line to watch.

Hard to know who to target until we see the buying frenzy start.
I'd imagine the real frenzy doesn't start until Wednesday.

Is the overall center position in the NHL in its worst shape ever? Seems like real centers are extremely hard to come by.
