At least with Arvidsson you can argue that the team definitely needed an upgrade at wing in the top 6 so you push a little harder.

How the hell does a 35 year old 3C get a NMC from a team that(at the time) already has Ryan McLeod under contract? Crazy stuff.

I don't think the NMCs really impact much. I seriously doubt the Oilers were looking at moving either of Henrique or Arvidsson this season. I think the plan is to add to the current group, and while both have been disappointing, neither are the worst forwards playing.

Skinner I could see them wanting to move on from, but I don't see why he wouldn't waive as long as he's going to a playoff team. If they add two forwards, I don't see him getting any playoff time anyway, so not sure why he'd want to stay.

f*** the forwards at this point. They have 500 forwards and like 480 of them apparently have a NMC.

They're not adding anyone who moves the needle, they're too stupid to scout anyone good anyway.

I'd say the opposite. Henrique played well here, and took a discount so the NMC is somewhat justified.

Arvy was injured all year, was an unknown, and still got 4m. He should have been straight up in return for the very decent contract he got otherwise.

Fair but if we don’t improve on Skinner we are wasting the rest of McDavid and Draisaitls prime.
I don't buy it. I think the Oilers need to find a way to get back some of their secondary scoring and improve their PK.

I think the Oilers need an upgrade on their 3rd string/minor league affiliate in case someone gets hurt or one of their games goes completely off the rails.

I understand that it's not a popular argument, but there's a very reasonable chance that in the instance you make that big goalie move, those other areas don't improve and you end up with similar results.

Addressing the goaltending doesn't necessarily fix the goaltending. As indicated by the RV and Skinner signings. How are Draisaitl's wingers this year?

We still have to compete against the teams in our conference who are adding at the deadline. Status quo means we'd be walking into the playoffs with a weaker roster, just a different goalie.

Who says you have to take the entire contract back?
The acquisition cost. The cost of long-term is significant, if you're suggesting it's notable.

I think we're mostly on the same page here, but my view very simply is that if Kane comes back early that means that either:

A) The Oilers botched their plan for deadline cap space completely, or
B) They didn't even have a plan for deadline cap space to botch

It's a really ugly look either way.

Just my opinion. Probably am wrong. But I doubt they really had much of a plan.

I think their plan was to strong arm Holloway and Broberg into cheap deals that started with a 1. They might not of even cared about a Broberg offer sheet. They probably didn’t expect it from Holloways camp. I mean its a rare situation and a double offer sheet has never happened before.

I doubt they expected both players to team up and put them in a bad spot. I think once they did that they didn’t really have any intention of matching because 1) It probably pissed them off and 2) They probably couldn’t use the cap space to sign the players when Kane was a question mark.

I think the talk about having cap space flexibility was mainly just fluff. I doubt they expected Holloway to break out the way he has though.

lol ... so this management spent 10 million on forwards that don't do shit, now they need to spend how much more to fix that after losing Holloway and Broberg for nothing?

I feel bad for McDavid and Draisiatl, team is so incompetent they don't have a starting goalie and do stupid shit like this and we're supposed to pretend it's OK.

What bullshit.

The way the Oilers slap trade protection onto every single contract they sign is probably the thing that bugs me the most about how this Front Office operates.
Especially with these short term deals, for players that aren't in high demand. It should be a privilege to play alongside McDavid or Draisaitl, there's no reason for Oiler GMs to be so desperate that they need to hand out NMC's to middling free agents.
You don't want to play with McDavid or Draisaitl on a contending team without a NMC? Fine, we'll find somebody else who does. Simple.
These Oiler GMs constantly make the simple seem difficult even right down to this Kane LTIR fiasco.

We probably have the worst goaltending duo in the league. Goaltending is arguably the most important position.

You don’t address the shrapnel in the ass before the hole in the chest.

I've always thought part of the point of these clauses was to reduce AAV.

Given that both Henrique and Arvidsson are overpaid as is, that's not a glowing endorsement of Jackson.

What the f*** were they thinking?

If they can't move Skinner or Arvidsson, then really who realistically is even being added at forward? Another middle 6 tweener? What f***ing difference is that going to make, like who honestly thinks that's the difference between winning and losing a series?

Just get Gibson at this point if you can ... at least McDavid/Drai have somewhat of a chance if they have goaltending help as is ... f*** off with this. Calvin Pickard is outperforming our so-called "starter".

JJ signed those deals then Connor and Leon simply have to learn to play with Skinner and Arvidsson, you can't shove everyone into the bottom 6 pile Knoblauch.
