Not a coincidence that the Rangers tried to go Full Thug after that once Drury took over, and like most teams who try that, it was a miserable failure. Ryan Reaves didn't do anything of consequence, and Sammy Blais barely played for them.
Blais was a complete failure. Reaves actually was pretty good during his first season, and yes, the Rangers did actually become tougher to play against.

I mean wasn't this whole thing highlighted last spring? The Rangers had become the Capitals, Rempe was Tom Wilson. And Devils were the Rangers when that statement was made. Rangers dominated that team physically, and the Devils were forced to acquire MacDermid.

Becoming tough doesn't mean you become a good team though. But they did become tough in a span of few years.

Exactly, instead of addressing the obvious issues, like the lack of a true #1 center instead of just relying on Zibanejad to wildly outperform his abilities every year, they decided they had to goon it up, and traded their best two-way forward in order to do it (and yes, I know trading Boosh was inevitable, but the return was absolute shit).

Also, Rempe is an objectively horrid hockey player. Wilson isn't a star or anything but he was at least able to hold his own on the ice in his prime. I sure hope Rempe doesn't suffer from the same things that ultimately cost guys like Boogaard and Rypien their lives.

If anyone wants to see how to become "harder to play against" the right way, they should look at what Bill Zito did with the Panthros.

Oh, so THAT'S why Trudeau is getting the boot.

That's completely and totally not true, I have no idea where in hell you got that idea.

Davidson and Gorton had nothing to do with that statement.

The Rangers publicly claimed the statement and the resulting fallout had nothing to do with both of them being fired, but anyone with half a brain knows that's bullshit.

I stand corrected...the public statement was from the owner and not from the GM. I thought it was the other way around for some reason.

Ah ok. It looked like you were using your 2nd post to explain the first one.

With that said, your first post surprised me a lot. Do you have a link for that so I can read up on it?

"A new report from the Fraser Institute, a Canadian free-market think tank, looks at income instead of output, and its findings are even worse for Canada. In a ranking of the 50 U.S. states and ten Canadian provinces by median earnings per person, all ten provinces line up at the bottom, occupying spots 51–60. Every U.S. state has higher median earnings per person than Alberta, the richest Canadian province."

Byram is not the problem with Buffalo. That team's culture and fundamentals are f***ed, and the other defenseman aside from Dahlin are sieve prone.

Power skating back for the puck tips it back into the slot for the gong show first goal.

Clifton leaving the entire right side of the ice with Laine wide open on the PK for the second goal.

Jokiharju with a soft as butter battle for a loose puck, and then McLeod skating circles around the goal scorer without touching him for the third goal.

Samuelsson pretending to dive to block the one timer, but slowly sliding away from the puck, and then Power screening his own goalie on the fourth goal.

Clifton with no interest whatsoever blocking the shot on the PK for the fifth goal in the video above. He keeps looking over and knows it's coming, but just slowly moves over and seems to intentionally let it get through.

Power with dog shit defense can't stop a backdoor pass that goes right at him for the sixth goal.
The ref deflected the puck to the slot for the 1st goal, not Power.

Leafs have scored 4 goals on 9 shots on Oettinger through 2 periods. I remain confident saying that goalie is overrated

The second period was crazy.

Wave after wave of Dallas pressure, Leafs would go down the ice and flick a shot on net that would go past Oettinger.

Back breaking stuff for Dallas and they were clearly demoralized after the 4th goal was scored on the 8th shot against of the game.

I can only imagine how demoralizing that was for their fanbase. I honestly don't know how any could deal with it.

I have the same feeling you do. I don't think Oettinger is anywhere close to the Hellebuyck/Shesterkin/prime Vasilesvkiy types. I think he's a good goalie but not one you pay 8M to annually.
I mean when you look at Oettinger’s numbers, he does put up over 900 save percentage every season, but that has a lot to do with playing on a good defensive team. For the kind of hype Oettinger gets, a lot of people rank him as a top 5 goalie in the NHL, he has stinkers like tonight more than he should if he really is a top 5 goalie which he isn’t
