Wasn't he just leaching points off of Stefan Elliott in juniors and the Avs bit HARD.

At the time he was really well thought of, scouts thought he’d be a dominant defensive dman, there were a bunch of reports praising his leadership and skating. Turns out scouts are bad at their jobs some times.

Siemens was actually a good skater for his size, and was by all accounts a really great locker room presence everywhere he went. His problem was just that he had flat zero puck skills. Even as a shutdown defenseman, you need to be able to make a basic breakout pass from your zone, and it says a lot that Anton Lindholm handled the puck with more alacrity at the NHL level.

Interesting to see that regardless of whether he's a better or worse GM than Dubas, Brad Treliving might have done the one thing his predecessor never quite did in Toronto--he got the goaltending right. At least for now.
