I'm not sure that Greig hit is all that bad? Mayyyybe a half second late but nothing malicious in my opinion.
Interference was the right call and that’s about it. Dach not playing like it is the regular season made him think he wouldn’t get hit. If you’re going to play, play like it matters.

The Greig hit wasn't great but it doesn't even come close to that Xhekaj head shot. A penalty for sure but not suspension-worthy IMO.

I'm still absolutely livid about what Pare did to Laine. That should've been 10 games at least.

I still feel so bad for Calvin Pickard. Ended up being the player taken by Vegas from the Avs roster (one of the upsides of Colorado having their worst-ever season was that Vegas plain didn't want any of their guys really). He was so excited he held a fan contest to design his helmet, only to be discarded the moment Malcolm Subban was put on waivers. Frankly Subban wasn't that much better, but whatever, I guess he got to go to the Stanley Cup Final last season so it ain't like his career has suffered horribly. But you could argue he was the first of many players to be hosed by the Golden Bites.

Anyway...way off-topic. Carry on.

That hit by Xhekaj was pure frustration on his part. It doesn't belong in the game, but after watching three important players on the Habs get long term injuries from dirty hits, I think he wanted to really send a message to the Sens bench and the rest of the league that you're playing with fire if you take runs at Habs players. Stupid and hotheaded move, but I at least understand why he was so pissed off.

That old-school hockey justice is coming back because the DOPS is mostly toothless, and their punishments are halfhearted at best. I don't know what they can really do to Paré, because he's not likely to ever play an NHL game anyway, but in general they need to be harsher on that, because otherwise guys like Xhekaj are going to start taking steps on their own. The whole point of having a league discipline office was to make that kind of bullshit obsolete.

I’ll argue if guys don’t play hard, they are more susceptible to injury as they aren’t playing with that edge. Which allows guys who are playing hard to take advantage of iffy situations.

Which means I don’t think you should play top guys until they are actually willing to play like a normal game.
Put ‘em in for the final preseason game and that’s it?
