2024 2025 Around the League Part 2

Will be interesting to see if he sticks around for next year, or just f*** off back to Russia. He has made it pretty clear that he has mostly stuck around because he wants that record, he would prefer to play in Russia and for Dynamo to end his career.
He's under contract for next year. I'd be shocked if he goes to KHL even after the contract with the way he currently enjoys the team and his teamates. He'd be leaving a very good thing.

For sure. I'm glad we got to see their entire careers. Unlike Gretzky for example, who I only got to see with the Rangers.

Welcome back btw! Nice to see you posting here again.
Thanks man. I figured I’d join the avs run while I have some free time the next few months. Makar is well worth it

Googling “Ovechkin”.

Regardless of his skill. Hes going to have his Putin love attached to him for years.

Especially if Russia attacks the Baltic's like a lot of reports and intel agencies are reporting. Hasek called him out as well.

Yep, I don't ever see this mentioned anywhere except the same 2-3 people on this forum.
Has not been an issue in North America. Every European hockey related media however, is mentioning it in their article about him breaking the record. It won't be an issue with the NHL, but his legacy will be tarnished in Europe and international hockey. Though that's not really different from any Russian player I guess.

Plenty of Russian players in the NHL, only one of them openly supporting Putin.

Google "Gretzky"

First article that comes up - after the Ovechkin goal, of course - is an opinion piece titled "Wayne Gretzky, former Canadian Hero."

Perhaps the sports and the politics are best left separate.

Question...

How much are the broadcasts f***ing with the crowd noise? I'm honestly begin to feel like the national broadcasts are using sound boards to control the crowd noise and chants.

Also, Gretzky still isn't a natural born speaker, but he's gotten so much better over the years. I really think doing TNT with Biz has helped really draw him out a bit more. Anyways, I was impressed with his speech and how eloquently he spoke about the game. Tonight was really the only second time I felt his full glory (I was too young, not watching back when he dominated). The first time was that cheesy commercial where they passed the torch. It was cringe, but the concept was solid... just a bit rough with the execution... but you could feel the power of the players and you could feel the reverence for the legends. That was cool. And then tonight... he was congratulating Ovie...it dawned on me he was not only speaking as Wayne Gretzky, but as the voice of the NHL.

Ovi is like Pete Rose. Each had incredible achievements in their sport. People want to worship their heroes but are disappointed when they turn out to be just as human and flawed as the rest of us. So I appreciate his achievement on the ice but I question whether he has a moral compass. That’s important to some people but for a large segment of the populace it’s an irrelevant concern.

The sport would be completely different if the point was to have good moral bearings. Not so sure I'd be watching that to be honest.

Tbh I didn’t know what the issues with Gretzky was prior to reading this thread a few comments that I didn’t really care about until just now and realizing who he was sitting with through these games… it wasn’t Gary but the other guy. Shocked tbh. Surprised hardly
