Man, Clarke got super cute there gaining the offensive zone there, got rocked, and then takes a penalty for playing without a helmet.

Not a good shift from him there at all.
Yeah. One of his worst shifts.

Unfortunately no forwards hanged back, so he stayed on the ice to help push a forward and give him momentum, too.

Clarke is the worst D man on Team Canada today. Having a horrid game.
Better bounce back in the 3rd and use his teammates better.
Haven’t liked his game most tournament. He reminds me of another of our right shot defenseman and it’s not Drew.

No way, One bad play and not familiar with IIHF rules. Whoever he is paired with, #11?, has had some problems and the coached reduced the pairs time. Commentators blew it out of proportion. Why do so many Canadians not like Clarke? He looked like butter early in the first. Not even sure if he was on for a goal against. They can kiss off when he wins a cup in LA!

To me, the Zellweger hype is super confounding.

He is the prototypical high-event, high-production, under sized D, that rarely translate well to the NHL game overall. He could prove me wrong completely, or just be a PP guy.

I like the guy as a PP specialist at the junior level, but I really don’t get the overall favoritism for him. Hockey Canada is a strange duck for sure.

Most of his hype came from last year, and prob warranted...
Had a huge year in WHL
Was a big part of canada gold medal team .. you could argue he was top Dmen in that tournament... and was prob in contention for MVP(if not for McTavish). If i remember correctly he had the best tournament for an u18 dmen in team canada history.

You put all that together + his gold medal experience, and its not super shocking that hes been the go to guy.

Granted i dont think hes played anywhere near where he played last WJC... granted outside of Bedard i dont think ive been overly imrpessed with team canada. Hinds has looked pretty good for canada... doesnt try to do to much, plays a pretty smart/safe game

As for NHL... everytime ive watched him at camps and stuff hes been pretty electric skating/passing/puck handling and shooting. Obviously size is going to always be somewhat of an issue. I doubt he sees the NHL anytime soon... prob doing at least a year in the AHL. Hes in that young age range (like byfield, late draft bday).... honestly not too worried about him, was always going to be a bit of a project. I dont think anyone thinks hes going to be a top pairing dmen, but if he can be a 2nd or 3rd pairing guy who chips in offensively and on powerplay ill take it.

He hasn't played well. Seems to rover around the ice and make some bad passes that results in icing. He needs to settled down and read the plays better, use his teammates. He seems lost at times on the ice. To me he looks like he is playing hurt.

I disagree completely on his past play. Only icing I saw. He is looking for the soft spots on the ice and is continually wide open. His teamates need to use him and vary the attack not drive forward every single time. The forward has to get his stick on it at center ice. He may feeling it from that hit now though.

He actually is a duck. The the way they hype him you'd think he's all world type dman. The dude will fit in well with all the skilled guy on the ducks who can't play defense.

Clarke can make some very nice plays. Has great offensive instincts but needs some time to get stronger. Work on his foot speed and his defense.

He will be a nice addition in a year or so but needs to put some work in.

Canadas defense as a whole is a disaster

nobody is having a good game, they all are playing nervous. tons of bad plays and turnovers, especially bednar. They're lucky its not tied.

edit: its tied 3-3.

Terrible play by Clarke to leave his man alone in front of the net.

Zellweger has laid major eggs today, too, but Clarke's been worse. Easily his worst game of the tourney.

Clarke with a massively stupid read that lets SVk tie it.
It was the gaffe of the tournament for him.

Z misses his check, Clarke gets caught chasing, and the Slovaks tie it.

Clarke has saved his worst game of the tournament for the most important game. f***ing brutal.

Bad d play on the crucial play of the game true.
Shift before he broke a guy on a break away with a pass from below the goal line.
Just like I have commented before he is elite on offense but needs work before he is ready to play D in the NHL.
Hello Barrie that just proved Blake right.

Canada needs a goal and now Clarke out there every other shift.

I think clarke thought z fell down and tried to stop the wrap around, instead everything went wrong. tough shift for both guys. you can see the nerves on all of them.

great, now we're going to have to deal with three years of "clarke is a bust because I saw him that one time" discourse

they'll completely forget about zellweger turnover behind the net the he tried to cover.

Clarke was def put in a bad spot there... but hes always going to get blame for the guy in front of the net. Unfortunate for him

and what a dumb play by slovaks... how you take a dumb penalty there

That call on Nemecs is horse shit. It’s a 2 at most.

IIHF reffing is for the birds, man.

Edit- glad to see the review worked out for the best there.
