Which may have cost them that season, as they fell short.

Again, the Jays as it stands for now would have an infield next season of Jr, Biggio/Espinal, Bichette, and a rookie.

The Jays would be counting on the rookie 3B to overcome the black hole in production that is at 2B. Houston worked because they had Altuve, Gurriel, and Bregman for production, and Diaz for backup.

They Jays didn't win in 2015, so I'm also not sure as to why that is held up as a success.

I mean, there is also zero chance that Biggio/Espinal are their primary options at 2B next year. Either Merrifield is re-signed or they’ll be bringing in someone else.

My point about 3B is exactly what you stated about 2B.

IMO there is a near zero chance that the Jays also won't address 3B as well. I can't see the Jays being good with running rookies as the primary options at 3B but not ok with Espinal/Biggio at 2B. They at the very least need someone capable of stepping in if the rookies falter.

Merrifield has a mutual option for $18 million for 2024, so if he thinks he can do better on the open market, he will decline the player option and go to market, so he may price himself out of the Jays.

I'm not big on looking at only the World Series winner to determine what is/isn't a good strategy. There's way too much luck involved in winning a championship and the samples become way too small.

I think the 3B prospects are considered bigger cogs in the future of the organization and it’s more likely they give them a look next year to see if they could be a long-term fix.

But also yeah, I think it’s probably more likely they make a big trade for a guy like Ryan McMahon in Colorado who would be an absolutely perfect fit both in terms of player and contract.

Luis Rivera is a f***ing moron. He was trying to waive George home there because he thought the ball went into left field. Then he realized his mistake and physically touched George to stop him, which is against the rules but nobody caught it.

DeJong just doesn't look comfortable at the plate at all

Guys, he's not a good hitter. If he was even an average hitter he would be one of the best shortstops in the league. He was acquired for nothing and the Cardinals even sent money back to us. As long as he continues playing plus defence he is a fine stop-gap while Bichette is out.

Bad hitter that can flash a bit of power here and there with a plus glove at short. He is what he is, playing exactly as what should be expected of him.

Not saying he's a stud hitter but he did average 20-25 hrs up until last year. So great defensively with some pop id say

Well said

These first couple games are showing why Varsho is valuable. He provides near Kiermaier level D in CF with some pop and solid baserunning. He can and should be able to hit for a better average than he has and the reality is that if he hits .230-.240 with an OBP in the .300-.320 range and he can club 15-20 HR while being a top top shelf defender across the outfield, that's a core piece of a good team.
