I hope all those posters who thought this team was good, has changed. This team is dog trash

Atkins went for a mid roster so the fact that the team’s performance is also mid isn’t surprising.

Not sure how the guy keeps getting so much slack when his moves basically result in zero net improvement to the team year over year.

He makes one good move for every move he should make but doesn’t. Like trading a declining Teo for a good reliever, but then doesn’t bother trying to replace prime Teo’s offense in the lineup.

I don't even know what to say. Am I crazy to say that Moreno, Gurriel, and Teoscar haven't been the difference this year?

On the bright side, in limited action so far this year, White has shown some decent swing and miss stuff after being kinda blah the last few years

Fastball still sucks, but at least the usage is down and secondary pitches look good, especially that new "sweeper" or whatever it it's called. There's a tiny bit of hope.

Realistically what would the difference be? Because you put those guys on the team, subtract their replacements, and I still don’t think the Jays are a 40 win team at this point in the year. The difference is guys like Manoah, Vlad, Springer, Kirk, Espinal, and even Biggio have not played up to their expectations.

Exactly

Well this was disappointing to say the least... having a 6-1 evaporate to lose 11-7...

Why does this team only score more than 2-3 runs per game in losses?

Kirk's problem were predictable though. It's not like it's bad luck. Unless he changes his lifestyle drastically his career might be short. I mean you'll find guys in better shape in a country side bar at 4AM on a wednesday night.

Management has made very good moves which is why I find it puzzling those moves are getting criticized. Gausman, Berrios, Chapman, Merrifield, Springer, KK, Ray, Semien, Swanson, etc. Other than the Happ trade, they haven't made a horrendous one, although Mitch White might be close. The Jays have gained a lot of value from these trades and signings. Management frequently gets wins on trades and for the most part sign good free agents.

The biggest weakness has been an inability to develop MLB pitchers. Pearson, at best will be a high-leverage reliever. Manoah has been great but currently in the minors. I think a #2 or #3 starter is reasonable for him. That's it. And it's not like they have traded any solid pitcher either. I can't think of one on another team.

AAA it's pretty vacant and while it does get better at AA, it's still AA.

There’s nothing predictable about his splits. He’s performing well at home and poor on the road. And Vladdy is performing well on the road and poor at home. When you have half the team performing well on the road and the other half performing well at home… you get these results.

The lack of consistency can’t solely be put on conditioning. While his weight may be an issue that he needs to control, there’s plenty of athletic catchers that cannot even hit as well as current Kirk.

With the NextLevel being the basement, Rogers may want to rethink that campaign slogan.

Are they really under-performing though? A lot of them are not that young anymore. At some point they've got to take that next step towards another level or they're just another avg MLB team. Maybe that's just what they are.

Some posters here have been saying it for the past 2 seasons now, but there is something about the core that just doesn't look or feel right. I don't see this team ever making a push with the core players they are building around.

Despite the lack of breakouts, if the Jays has gotten the “regressed” version of Manoah (~3.30-3.50 era) this year they’d probably be the second best team in the league, no? They’re not only missing one of their top two pitchers, but he left after essentially costing them games and forcing the Jays to scramble and misuse their bullpen. Now they’re trying to patch it up and it hasn’t worked.

One guy is not the reason they are sitting where they're sitting. A lot hasn't gone right. I'm just saying we're now here multiple years later still waiting for this team to take that next step. At some point you have to start looking at whats in front of you and maybe this team just isn't good enough. Saying this team would likely be the 2nd best team in the league if Manoah was at least half as bad as he was is stretching it just a bit, no?

Just after Manoah was sent down, the team had a record of 31-19 with starts done by the other four pitchers.

I mean the guy you were expecting to be your ace going into the season turning into literally the worst starting pitcher in all of baseball is a pretty damn massive swing....maybe not 2nd best team in baseball but we are likely comfortably cruising into a playoff berth with like a good Manoah.

The Jays went 4-9 in Manoah starts. If the inverse had happened they would be 44-29, just a game back of the Os/Rangers for 2nd in the AL. Idk, I just see the lack of contributions from his spot in the rotation as spiralling into a bigger issue for the pitching staff as a whole.
