This team just isn’t very good. I’ve accepted that this group isn’t nearly good enough to be a championship team.
You’re right but now that their schedule is going to get easier they’ll win a few more games and people will say “see told ya they’re a good team” all the while not realizing they can’t beat good teams cause they’re no where near a championship calibre team.

So that means there are... what? Three good teams in the AL?

Why three teams? Going by the standings, there’s TB, Yanks, O’s, Texas, Houston, and LA with better records right now. We’re into June, and we’re coming to the point where you are what your record says you are.

That can change of course as we play easier competition, but that doesn’t change that right now the Jays are not playing up to their payroll nor the standard expected of them at the beginning of the season. If you deny that then I don’t know what to tell you. And that’s with no injuries to key players. Imagine this offence if Bo or Vlad suffer injuries.

As a fan I really hope they starting hitting better with RISP, and get in synch hitting with more consistency throughout the lineup.

I didn't deny that they aren't playing up to expectations. They've been relatively disappointing considering what I expected of them heading into the season, and that's been complicated by the fact that a handful of teams in the AL have been off to fantastic starts.

My "three teams" comment was based on your suggestion that wins against bad teams are less meaningful and that "they can’t beat good teams cause they’re no where near a championship calibre team".

The Jays are 24-23 against teams better than .500.
The Yankees are 22-21.
The Astros are 21-20.
The Angels 13-20.

The only teams that have been "good" against good teams are Tampa Bay, Baltimore, and Texas, so those are the three I was referring to. The Jays have sucked against the AL East, but that's mostly because they've struggled against one of the good teams (Baltimore) and the one shitty team (Boston), who they're a combined 1-9 against. They've been fine enough against Tampa Bay and New York (3-4 against each).

Offence has to get going more consistently. Jays are getting swept in Texas unless they get brilliant pitching. Not fair to the pitching staff which has been good most of the season. Need runs!

Usually there's no more than 8 potential champ teams in a league. Most of the time the champ finish in the top 8. The last 10 cup winners in the NHL finished in the regular season 4th, 2nd, 8th (ex equo with 1), 4th, 10th (ex equo with 2), 6th, 2nd, 4th, 7th and 9th. Just two winners outside the top 8. Stl who had Cinderella Binnington coming in mid season and LA who acquired Gaborik at the deadline.

In the MLB the last 10 ws winners finished 2nd, 12th, 1st, 8th, 1st, 3rd, 1st, 4th, 8th and 1st. Again just one winner outside the top 8.

The jays currently stands at 11th in the mlb. It's not impossible but usually it means something will have to happen. Either a coaching change, some help at the deadline (of higher quality than Bass, White and Pop), some help from the minor leagues or a Cinderella story.

The Jays have a good team but i fail to understand why so many fans don't see the holes. It's nothing un-fixable by a good GM at the deadline or during the season but personally i have lost faith in Atkins being that guy.

I fail to understand why so many fans don't see that the team is 1.5 GB of a playoff position with more than half of the season left to go. Phillies (lost) and Braves (won) are two examples in the last two postseasons of teams that barely squeaked in and made it to the World Series. There's literally nothing predictable about postseason baseball or else the Dodgers and Astros would be splitting championships over the last decade. Can they make the playoffs? That's really all that matters. If they can, they'll buy and attempt to fill those holes that so many of us can't see.

It absolutely doesn't require something significant to happen. Even if you really believe that being in the Top 8 is key, then keep in mind that, while you're right that the Jays are currently in 11th overall, they're 1.5 games out of 6th overall (despite having a much more difficult schedule to this point than most of the teams ahead of them) and we're still 11 games away from even reaching the half-way point in the season.

If they play a couple good games this weekend they could easily be sitting 6th-8th in the standings. Would you consider them a "potential champ" then?
