I just noticed and maybe it's just a coincidence. But there isn't any Black American players on the Jays roster, probably the only team in the majors?
Has to be a coincidence, I'm sure that's the case, I certainly hope so!

They had Jackie Bradley Jr last year. Just a weird roster quirk/coincidence.

Really impressive showing from Kikuchi. I thought for sure he was about to go nuclear after that home run to Reyes.

He dialed back in and threw a crazy clean game of ball. instead of pitching like a chickenshit he came right back at the Royals lineup. If he actually figured out his mental issues he might a huge boon.

Because I'm not at all hyperbolic and very rational: YUSEI SEASON STARTS NOW GIVE HIM THE CY YOUNG.

There's actually been a steep decline in African Americans in baseball. This website has the number as 7.7% African Americans last season. The stats from 1947-2016 show a steady decline. And here's a Newsweek article from last season on the decline.

I am used to watching it from Kiermaier but it's really great to see him and Varsho make smart and effective plays. How Varsho settled under that flyball was textbook. Couldn't have done it any better.

It depends how you look at. It is a coincidence in that the Blue Jays did not spend the offseason making sure they didn't sign any Black Americans. But it isn't a coincidence in that the number of players is declining, and rapidly. It has been a topic of conversation for a while now. The number of Americans of any race has been declining too.

It's definitely fun to watch elite defense. We've already seen a couple plays from Kiermaier/Varsho that probably don't get made last year, and a couple more from Springer/Merrifield that I doubt Teoscar makes. (Though, to be fair, I don't think Varsho's throw was one of them... that was one of the things Gurriel was great at )

Except that Gurriel would have thrown off his back foot after barely getting there (and still may have caught him at the plate).

Less than a year ago they picked up Jackie Bradley Jr. after he was let go by Boston. Pretty sure this management has nothing against black players.
