Not sure what Poitras gains playing in Junior again, I know he's young but if he can hang with NHL talent I see no reason to send him back.

If he could play in the AHL that would be a different conversation. I would even play Lorhei in the NHL.

Gives cap flexibility as well.

Just my view
I think he could stay too, but If they send him down I believe its to dominate the league even more, and score more goals. As good as he was with distributing the puck, he only had 16 goals last junior season. Goal scoring is something that gets easier the more you do it. We all know he can do better than that in juniors this year with increased confidence and a shooter mentality. Having him instead get frustrated by NHL defenseman and goalies might ruin his development with goal production.
My 2 cents the reason if he goes down.

You guys don’t think Poitras gets at least a 10 game look? I haven’t been to camp, interested to hear if he looks ready at all during the camp sessions.
Honestly, I'm not sure what's gained by giving him 9 games. You can say he gets a "taste" of the NHL, but if you are going to send him back eventually so as not to burn a year off his ELC, then you might as well just do it. If you think he's going to be a top 9 player on this team right now... then keep him.

You get 9 games to see how he responds to it.

Ok and he's good but not great... then what? If you "think" he's going to be a contributor this year then just plan to keep him up, even if he doesn't look great at first. If you aren't sure about him, then send him back and let the guys you think are going to be contributors build chemistry.

If you think he can contribute better than the other options and be a regular then you keep him. If he looks overwhelmed you send him down. If he looks like a part time player you send him down. If he looks no better than Bovquist/Heinen and the like then you send him down. 9 regular season NHL games is a better audition than a couple preseason games

Maybe but out of Mitchell, Regula, Zboril, Shattenkirk, Lohrei and Walsh.... 4 of them aren't making the team. Only 1 of them is exempt from waivers.
Can you only lose one guy on waivers or could you lose multiple

Shattenkirk is playing opening night,
Yes - however can the Bruins can evidently lose say Zboril Mitchell Regula and Walsh in 24 hours

Obviously I don’t see it but sounds like they will all be out there

You wouldn't want to take a hopeful skill top 6 guy and have him fill the role of a 4th liner just to give him NHL minutes.

Much better off letting him be "the guy" even if its against competition that may be less than her deserves at this point.

You don't want to take a guy that could be a Derek Roy and turn him into a Dan Paille by playing him 4th line with other ham and eggers
Not that I'm disagreeing wrt Poitras, but isn't that what they did with Marchand?

He’s now the center of attention.
Pavel Zacha, who spent most of 2022-23 riding the left wing on David Krejci’s line, is poised for some big moves on the precipice of his second season with the Bruins.
Zacha is a leading candidate to take over the center spot on the top line, a role formerly held by Patrice Bergeron. Though his wingers are to be named later, Zacha has spent significant practice time this week with Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak.
Additionally, Zacha has assumed another of Bergeron’s former tasks: the bumper role on the top power-play unit.

While no final decisions have been made when it comes to line combinations — the mixing and matching continued during Thursday’s sessions — it’s clear more will be expected from Zacha, who filled in at center several times last season when Krejci and/or Bergeron were out.

Coach Jim Montgomery said this week the difference between the 26-year-old Zacha last training camp and this year is “night and day.”

“I sense a guy that’s comfortable in his skin, knows who he is, knows how he’s going to have success in this league, expects himself to have success,” Montgomery said. “And to be a big part of the nucleus of our team. He was finding himself last year.”

Fans could get the first look at a Zacha-Pastrnak-Marchand combo Friday when the trio makes its preseason debut against the Flyers at TD Garden. It’s also possible, however, that Anthony Richard subs in for Marchand.

The Bruins captain knows things can change quickly and remains excited for all the possibilities.

“Pasta’s one of the best goal scorers in the league and Pav took a massive step last year, he’s got incredible vision and a really good two-way player, like Bergy,” Marchand said Wednesday. “I had a lot of fun playing with them. If I’m there [in the future], we’ll keep building and keep working together. It’s definitely going to be a work in progress. We weren’t completely in synch out there, but that’s expected, especially when you have a new center. We’ve played with different guys the last few years and you have to get used to one another. We’ll keep working on it and we’ll get to where we want to be.”

Zacha, the sixth overall pick in 2015, set career highs in goals (21) and assists (36) last season. He spent the summer working out in Boston, often skating with Marchand, which helped him feel more comfortable in his surroundings after coming over via trade from the Devils.

“I know [Marchand] and Bergy played together for a long time, but he was really nice,” said Zacha. “He was telling me the whole summer just how he trains, and I was able to watch him. I was just trying to get better with him. There’s a reason why he’s the captain. He’s a great player and he knows how to talk to players and how to make them feel comfortable. That’s what he was for me the whole summer and he tried to make me feel comfortable coming into the center position.”

“I’m excited for Pav. I love the step he took this summer,” said Marchand. “He trained extremely hard and it’s showing right now. He looks awesome in camp, with his elevated role and the position he’s going to be in. I still think there’s another step he’s going to take and it’s going to be fun to see.”

Wouldn't it be something if Zacha turns out to be a legit #1 center.

Not that I'm disagreeing wrt Poitras, but isn't that what they did with Marchand?

Tbf Marchand had almost a full season and a half of ahl seasoning. He showed there he could produce but also play a responsible game on the defensive side. When poitras is eligible if he goes to the A and is the go to guy, puts up pts and plays a pro game I think there’s less risk in his development stunting if he breaks in on the fourth line for half a season.

Also Marchand he was more of a late bloomer when it came to his offensive game. I don’t think anybody saw him as a 35 goal 80 pt guy even 3-4 seasons into his nhl career. Maybe an exception to the usual rules.

If I had to wager I would guess Potsy goes back. I 100% wish he would make the team though. We would have some growing pains with this line up but I think they would be a great team to watch and at least make the playoffs.

JVR-Zacha-Pastrnak
Marchand-Poitras-Debrusk
Frederic-Coyle-Geekie
Lucic-Beecher-Lauko

Since the regular season is completely different from the playoffs - and you can’t worry about the playoffs until you make them I would try what looks like they are doing

Super line - basically Perfection Line 2.0 (if Journey can be called Journey without Steve Perry….)

Then two lines made up of 7 guys (Coyle DeBrusk JVR Frederic Geekie Boqvist & Heinren

Solid - good

And the 4th built probably around Lucic & Beecher to start

The D & G situation is even deeper and better then last year

I would do this

Interesting discussions around Poitras and loading up with Marchy-Zacha-Pasta. Going to be very exciting to see where the chips fall here the next few weeks.

Something else that excites me is the defense. Posters have talked about 22 vs 23 roster spots and having to move Forbort/Gryz or waive zboril etc. I'm curious if Lohrei makes this team? If he does, do you put him with Carlo on the 2nd pair and have a Lindholm-McAvoy super pairing? Do you play him with McAvoy and give Lindholm-Carlo the toughest matchups? Or does he play with Shattenkirk on the 3rd pair? I'd be game for trading Forbort first and foremost but not against trading Gryz to recoup some assets/picks and give us some cap flexibility.

I'm also super pumped to see if Beecher makes this team. I'm a big supporter and I think him and Looch on the 4th line could wreak havoc on other teams. Add in a guy like Lauko and that's a filthy 4th line to roll out for 10-12 minutes a night. I think they get you 25-35 goals between the three. Dress Greer on nights when Looch may need some soldiers to go to war with.

I agree with this completely. Poitras has to convincingly make the team in camp. If he does that, but after nine games it isn't working out, you send him down. But if he can convince in camp there is no reason to just roll the dice and see what happens in regular season games.

Gryz McAvoy
Lindholm Shattenkirk
Lorhei Carlo

Give Lindholm/McAvoy a few extra shift together at key times in the game.
