Watching camp yesterday it caught me how big their centers are if Poitras goes back

Zacha Coyle Frederic/Morgan Beecher all 6”2 +

So much for a soft small team

You re not more physical with this D corp, even softer than last year
What do u suggest ? Who do u like on the back end? I didn’t think lohrei had a chance but some genius pointed out the salary cap implications of having him. It gives the bruins the option of having a 23 man roster instead of 22. Maybe they dump forbort.

Poitras definitely opening eyes, but I would caution that center is so hard to break in as a rookie. Just the physical and defense responsibilities are tough. Sucks he can’t got to the AHL. I definitely think we need to see him a few more preseason games before thinking about first 9 games of the season. Wish he played against Buffalo because they had their first line basically playing. Would have been good to see him match up against Tage just to see how his strength and responsibilities would have held up.

What have you thought about Edward? In London we know him as a tough physical dman. He plays with an edge and crosses the line sometimes. Has he had a good camp? My personal projection would be a 5 or 6D

Yes
He has a long, long way to go before he can play in the NHL

Yes
We are hype on him. He is still raw and young. We love physical defence around these parts. I think we penciled him in for the 2026-2027 season :sarcasm::popcorn:

Agreed, but why is he still at camp?
They only cut some older ahl players so far(I think)

Probably want to coach him as long as possible

Tbf Marchand had almost a full season and a half of ahl seasoning. He showed there he could produce but also play a responsible game on the defensive side. When poitras is eligible if he goes to the A and is the go to guy, puts up pts and plays a pro game I think there’s less risk in his development stunting if he breaks in on the fourth line for half a season.

Also Marchand he was more of a late bloomer when it came to his offensive game. I don’t think anybody saw him as a 35 goal 80 pt guy even 3-4 seasons into his nhl career. Maybe an exception to the usual rules.
The bruins have a type

Can they even keep Poitras for the 9 games without a big Cap crunch and rework?

From Capfriendly it looks like they could make it happen but would need to waive Zboril, Brown, Greer, Megna, Walsh, etc, etc. and not sign either Chiasson or Heinen. (Assumes Boqvist sticks and Lauko is on the roster).

If he can only cut the 9 games and levels out they will need to see who made it thru and can be called back up. If he flatlines after 40 games then they are really screwed.

In all cases they are going to have to flood the waiver wire as there are many of the possible roster options eligible this year sot he cuts will be interesting to see play out. It's the issue with 2 nickels for a dime as so many of these guys are good enough for depth, but not good enough for a legit NHL roster slot. And really puts the squeeze on the guys who could possibly make it but are waiver eligible. Don't see many of those guys making it this year even if they outplay the others.

Yeah I don't think "give him 9 games and see" is an option for the reasons you outlined. They have to be 100% sure. Cards stacked against him. I think there is a reason you see the 9 game thing used so infrequently, especially by teams who are not bottom dwellers.

Yes
I was watching him yesterday and he’s certainly interesting but he’s got AHL serious time ahead

I can’t remember the last time the bruins had four rookies on the roster.
If I had to guess Oct 13
Poitras - OHL
Lohrei - AHL
Mitchell - Anaheim
Beecher - AHL

Maybe they finally get somebody to give them a third for Grczelyk. Would prefer they move him for a physical D but you get more physical by default with Frodo gone.
