I can’t see Patrick Brown making this team as anything but 13F and I don’t see him winning that spot either. If Beecher keeps this up and they go Brown I give up.
This was my thinking this morning after watching Cam say if you prove it you make the team. Beecher is proving it more than anyone else vying for the 4C. Seems frustrating to me that if they can't win the cup with last year's team, it's going to be even more difficult with this team so why not break in Beecher and Lohrei etc instead of all of these invites and signings. Geekie, Brown, Chiasson, Heinen, Greer are all redundant as there are kids that could be used. Would rather Steen or MM over Heinen

They're both on PTO's. Neither has a contract for the season yet. The burden on them is to prove in camp that they are worthy of it. I'd like to have both players in the organization, but I think we can get away with signing them to two-way deals because I don't think any other team will offer a one-way.

If they haven't proved by the end of camp to be worth a spot then why sign them at all?

It’s called a tryout.

Right which is what they're on right now. If the plan as OP said would be to sign them and then waive them, why even sign them to sit in the AHL and take TOI away from the kids? Not only that, but why would either Heinen or Chiasson want to sign a two-way deal?

U don’t just ice unproven players just because u aren’t a cup contender (I think they can win the cup still btw)

They have to make the team better now to get a roster spot. No good nhl club hands kids roster spots just to give them nhl experience. They have to earn a roster spot by proving they are a better option.

I really hope Beecher makes it, but we see a guy every year who plays good enough to be on the roster and ends up in the AHL because he doesn't require waivers.

I would imagine some decisions have already been made but it will be interesting to see how things go while Monty is away from the team. I would imagine Sacco will be at the helm on Friday night.

Lohrei was one of the bright spots in the Bruins’ 4-1 loss to the Sabres. Inserted in the starting lineup, Lohrei played calm and confident from the get-go, leading to a most impressive third period, when he set up Boston’s only goal, landing a shot on net from the point and watching Oskar Steen bury the rebound.

Lohrei, who led all skaters in time on ice with 29 minutes, 1 second, showed no rookie jitters, settling passes and setting up teammates for scoring chances. He shows an uncanny ability to get out of tough situations with a quick change of pace that leaves opponents flat-footed.

“He’s a player that does a lot of good things when he has the puck, and his poise is the strength of his game,” said Montgomery. “And when someone has the poise to look people off and hold on to pucks to make special plays, you don’t want to discourage that. You want to encourage that. We want him to be able to feel comfortable making plays like he did in college.

Lohrei said he feels like he is consistently improving in every area of his game, but particularly in “making the simple play” and getting more physical — a huge point of emphasis for Montgomery going into the season.

A lot to like.

Oh my lord he is ready for back to back vezinas in those things

It will certainly be frustrating, especially after they made a point to mention they want to add some youth in the lineup this season.

You may have misunderstood my post. I'm saying that if Beecher continues to prove he is worthy of the 4c spot Cam said they would give whoever the spot if they prove it. What I'm saying is that there are too many players that are already in the system and can block some young players. So far I feel Beecher should be 4c.

will be interesting to see if they choose to load up or split 63 and 88. not a whole lot of offensive depth this year.
I hope they don't do the top-heavy thing. It may get you into the playoffs because you need the goals and the points, but in the long run, it doesn't work.

As we've seen repeatedly in the playoffs, if you shut down a one-line team, which the Bruins were, essentially, for years, there goes the series.

Plus, given their roster, I like Jake with Coyle and Brad, and I like David with Zacha and (to start) JVR.

Pasta and Pavel seem like a natural pair/chemistry for various reasons, which is how they've built lines in the past. That is not true of the Marchand line. Not an obvious pair, but it's possible that those three can develop chemistry and compliment each other. I think Coyle can compliment Jake's game, for example.

I think poitras has a chance to make the team. Beecher has a chance as well.

I do not think lohrei has a chance to make the team. If he dominates the ahl he will be the first call up.

IDK I think you could make an argument for Lohrei. If he play the rest of the pre-season and is better than Forbort and Zboril, it may make sense to keep him. Right now the Bruins have $430k in cap space with a 22 man roster and no extra forward. Forbort and Zboril combine to be a little over a $4.1 million cap hit. Let's say at worst you can't trade them and must waive them, it would save just shy of $2.4 million in cap space. This would be enough to fill out a 23 man roster.

The question obviously becomes what's best for Lohrei development? Assuming he plays a similar role to Forbort (maybe adding in some PP time) he could be looking at 18-19 minutes a night. Is that better for him or is it better that he goes to the AHL and logs 25+ minutes a night. Its not improbable as Boston was willing to do that with Carlo. Carlo finished his WHL season, played a few games in the AHL and then the following camp he earned a starting spot.

Fwiw, Geekie and Boqvist are a year younger than Steen, a year older than Lauko (2yrs older than Beecher). They’re the same age as McLauglin and Swayman. So they’re as young as “the kids.”

I don't know where to put this but the Bruins need to fix their website. You can't click on any of the links on the top menu bar (ie: rosters, tickets, ect.) The game schedule at the very top of the page is hideous and there are so many empty spaces in the news section.
