will be interesting to see if they choose to load up or split 63 and 88. not a whole lot of offensive depth this year.
I hope not. They need to roll two lines for the opposition to think about, otherwise we're back to the days of needing the perfection line to score every night. JVR - Coyle - DeBrusk doesn't exactly scare me, if I'm an opposing team.

If Poitras makes it to a 1-9 game tryout, I think it is on the 3rd line. I don't think they'd put a 19 year up to center Pastrnak or Marchand when two more capable options are available.

Marchand/Coyle/DeBrusk
JVR/Zacha/Pastrnak
Geekie/Poitras/Frederic
Lucic/Beecher/Lauko
Boqvist

Grzelcyk - McAvoy
Lindholm - Carlo
Forbort - Mitchell
Zboril - Shattenkirk

Chaisson/Heinen offered two-way deals or released. Greer and Steen put on waivers for assignment. All other forwards assigned to Providence.

Why sign Heinen or Chiasson just to waive them

They're both on PTO's. Neither has a contract for the season yet. The burden on them is to prove in camp that they are worthy of it. I'd like to have both players in the organization, but I think we can get away with signing them to two-way deals because I don't think any other team will offer a one-way.

These are surely the lines for the next game and I just don't get it. You have a chance to put Poitras on that third line, perhaps between Geekie and Frederic, and get a real look. How can you evaluate him with Harrison and Lysell? Putting Marchand and Pastrnak together is bad too. Montgomery said in the offseason that it would be Coyle-Marchand, Zacha-Pastrnak and I have no idea what would have changed here.

I mean they are also planning on having Forbort with Shattenkirk. Just checking out different combos, nothing to worry about.

I don't think Poitras really has a shot to make the team, TBH. Getting the 19 year old Spooner treatment where he will go through the full camp and be sent back.

youre probably right but i really want the 9 game try out

it honestly doesnt matter if he plays or not during those 9 games - the practices have to be more intensive in the beginning of the year, traveling with the team and being around the vets and seeing how they prepare to play

im sure someone might be like DeVelOpMent but what does 2 weeks matter in the grand scheme of things. idk enough to know if hes a sponge - but if he is, let him soak in some time in the pros

If he makes the team I would personally not want it having to lead a third line with Frederic or whatever but to take one of the top 2C spots and play with wingers that are better than he is right now. I dunno. The nine games sounds nice but I’m going to go out in a limb and assume they have a better feel than us.

I just want to ice the best team down the stretch. If he could be that then I want him part of that.

Who was the goalie that had the net laces painted on his pads like camoflague - this certainly isn't that. Hopefully they break in a little bit.

People seemed happy to evaluate Lysell with Harrison and Megna. This is better than that.

Fwiw, I think that line would tear up the AHL. I like how they fit together. Poitras and Lysell could be electric.

They probably want to see what Poitras looks like without two proven NHL players. He had the easy button in the first game, now it’s the hard button.

Pads don’t break in anymore. They’re made out of styrofoam and are designed to be blocky and hold their shape.

I think they’re supposed to look like old brown leather. I don’t think the knee rolls are actual rolls, just a print on the pad.

Yep. Same for all the “top6” kids. The top6 is set. I’d say 8 of the top9 are set too.

3LW, 4C and 4RW are the jobs players are competing for.

3LW: Boqvist, Heinen
4C: Brown, Beecher, McLaughlin
4RW: Lauko, Steen, Chiasson

In that order, IMO.

I can’t see Patrick Brown making this team as anything but 13F and I don’t see him winning that spot either. If Beecher keeps this up and they go Brown I give up.
