National championship would be April 8th. We have a game the 11th and 13th to end the season. So even if they go all the way (probably unlikely) then he should get into a couple games.

McAvoy did it too, and he had a worse pedigree and was not nearly as good in college.
That's just not true. He absolutely shredded the NCAA to pieces his sophomore year and won the Hobey Baker.

Luke Hughes hasn't even played in an NHL training camp or an NHL preseason game. I understand that he's an incredibly talented hockey player, but I think a lot of you are underestimating how difficult it is to play against the very best players in the world. Especially in the playoffs against that talent and intensity level. Even in the scenario that he was somewhat impactful offensively, it's just not a good situation for a player's development.

Also Quinn, who was broadly a worse prospect than Luke, saw NHL time immediately from college (not the playoffs, admittedly) and was good from the jump.
I'm not saying anybody can make the jump, but I am suggesting there's a real chance the best (drafted) prospect in the world can.

McAvoy was never really an offensive d-man though. Also didn't he play with really good d-men to shelter him? My memory is fuzzy but I feel like that was the case.

My post was mostly about posters talking about bringing up Nemec vs. Hughes.
I think Luke could definitely hang though, not overly worried about that. If he’s not ready, we’ll find out quickly.

I think we can trust Fitz to do the right thing.
As others have pointed out, it wouldn't be unprecedented to throw Luke in. If Fitz doesn't think he's ready or that it will be a net positive, it won't happen.

Again, I'm not saying pencil him in and let him cook regardless, I'm saying there's a significant chance he's better than several of our D options right now, today, and it'd be dumb as hell not to give him a shot. We can always just run out a top 5 D corps without him if he's a liability.

The only two players that have made that jump straight into playoff hockey are Makar and McAvoy. Considering both guys are two of the top 5 defenseman in the NHL I don't think it really impacted there development negatively at all.
He was never ranked ahead of heiskanen was mid season anywhere 8-15 in rankings and settled in at 4 in bobs final rankings. Solid prospect profile but never screamed generational.
Using the Makar is a generational player shouldn’t reflect on why luke wouldn’t be able to step in and play right away
Marino is going to get tons of minutes in the playoffs. Not the smartest decision.
You guys grossly underestimate the difference in the playoffs. In the playoffs, teams will hone in on all of Luke's weaknesses and completely exploit it. In a couple years I have faith he'll learn to handle it, but right now? Hell no.
Him being a generational dman has nothing to do with his draft profile since that's not when it was even realized he was very good.

I don't underestimate shit. Playoff hockey is still hockey.
And Luke can do things a handful of NHL guys can, just like his brothers. It's not gonna be pretty all the time, but he can break any game wide open at a moment's notice.
Development isn't linear though. Makar's growth was exponential. I agree there's not a reason Luke wouldn't be able to step in and play. Saying Makar didn't have a great prospect profile because his DY wasn't exceptional doesn't make sense.

I don’t think anyone wants to throw him in the deep end but he has so much raw talent that he can probably be a contributor in some capacity. Heavy offensive zone starts and PP specialist.

The only guy comparable is Makar and he's a generational defenseman, might become one of the greatest offensive defensemen of all time.
McAvoy is a phenomenal defensive defenseman, so apples to oranges compared to Luke. McAvoy there's at least an expectation that he could handle things in the defensive zone.

If he wants to taste the market, Devils will give him QO and he will lose millions on the open market, because teams will not give him more than young centers got.
I hope the deal that Fitz offered included 8 years of 8.2-8.5 mil salary and Bratt will sign it. Because he will lose money and will risk to play another year. He played with Jack and Nico full year, he will not hit new ceiling. Hope he will be reasonable. I really like the player and I want him long term.

With the trouble we were having breaking the puck out during our big dip having a one man transition machine on the backend sure would help if that problems presents itself again
