Gibson sucks.
His team is hot f***ing garbage
Agree with both.

He doesn’t suck as much this year as he has the last few years, where his team wasn’t quite as bad as it is now.

There’s a chance he can be revived elsewhere, but his cap hit is too much and he has 4 more years left on his deal.

I’m not sure he’s tradeable.

I mean, he may be tradeable, but you’re not getting much of any value back for him as he’s got 4 more years left at over $6 million. They’d probably need to retain too.

The Anaheim fans last year on the main board were telling to sell him to Toronto fans as the last piece of the missing puzzle to winning a cup, but they also wanted players that are still good and all kinds of draft stuff back.

Even accounting for Anaheim being the worst team and worst defense/team defense in the league, I don’t think Gibson is much of an upgrade to what we already have. And he costs almost twice as much per year as what we’re paying Vitek, he’s signed longer than any other goalie we have and he’s close to 3 years older than Vanecek is right now.

I would like to swap MB for a better goalie. Vejmelka is my pick . Some say he is a lateral move bitmwith how MB has been injury wise , I think Vejmelka is a smart move and is an upgrade. All depends how much we would have to add to MB. If it’s a substantial amount , no thanks. But if a late pick or a lesser prospect ,I’m down for it.
VV is having a very good season. I just would like neee insurance than an oft injured Blackwood.
SchmId has played very well as well so I guess we can be fine in net but if we can get Vejmelka for a small add , id do it.
Or just add Saros or Demko and call it a day

If we get Vejmelka it pretty much blocks Schmid from getting a role here until he’s 25 years old. Unless you deal Vitek before his deal is up or flip Vejmelka again before his deal is up.

And I’m not saying it’s Schmid or bust, because we don’t quite know yet if Schmid is really good or not, but we also don’t know if Vejmelka is good or not.

He was horrific last year in just about every metric, but he’s good this year.

I know Schmid sucked last year in the NHL too, but Vejmelka had a way larger sample of games played to showcase his suckage.

Schmid was also only 21 years old last season, while Vejmelka was 25-26, so I tend to give Schmid more benefit of the doubt.

And Vejmelka’s cap hit is also about what Blackwood’s currently is right now, so we aren’t saving any money.

We may be upgrading over Blackwood, but we also may not be upgrading over Blackwood a whole lot either. And then we have two more years of him at that cap hit, it’s almost like we gave Blackwood his qualifying offer (though it’s still even higher than Vejmelka’s cap hit) and two years to go along with it. That could be pretty bad if he comes out and turns back into the Vejmelka of last year.

Also 2.725. We're going to be really tight up against the cap. Rather just go cheap on goaltending. Give Schmid a chance rather than take on an unknown for more money.

the Devils only have ~$260k in cap space right now. They literally can't make a pick for player trade. If they make anymore moves, someone would have to be shipped out.

That may change with the Clarke demotion or whatever, but yeah. Its tight.

There are valid arguments to going all in this year, but every asset we hang on to is more ammo for us next year which is shaping up to be a softer competition given how many of the top teams are loading up for this run right now. The moves we've made have given us a top 6 that will rival anyone and bolstered our depth. We have 7 solid D already and we'll be adding Hughes. Unless Blackwood is out for the year we are three deep in goal (Yes I know we all hate Blackwood, but who is available that you would actually feel good about?). I think this is a reasonable group to go with at this point.

We're literally as all in as we could reasonably go.

Connor Ingram is a cheap option I like
He’s just eh. I’d rather just go with Schmid than him.

I usually don’t like the cherry picking game and am the first to shut those arguments down, but his numbers were in the toilet for much of this year. Then he had a 47 save shutout/1-0 shootout win over Tampa, followed by a 23 save relief shutout that shot his numbers up to league average.

And he’s also gonna argue for more dollars/term because of what he did behind shit bag Arizona.
