I disagree actually - was one of the best rosters the US has ever sent to the WJC.
It was def a better roster than Canada‘s.

Nah, nonsense! Canada was the better team that played a bad game when it mattered most. Sucks for us, good for them.
Offense-defense and goalie all statistically better than the U.S. You need to go back and take a deeper look.

I saw that Scott Wheeler, not exactly McKenzie but still, thought that Johnston had a better than 50% chance of making Dallas. He and Wright are the two iffy cases that I am most interested in seeing in terms of where they end up.

Agree, 100%. If they played 4 times, Canada wins 3.

To the American's credit, they played a great game.

I think that Canada/USA matchup in the GMG last year was a toss up and in a seven game series I would expect it to go the distance. They were quite evenly matched, in my opinion, but the US played a great game and were deserving winners in the end.

We will never know, of course. I do remember American fans, prior to the game, conceded Canada was a heavy favourite.

I just wish that team had another kick at that can.

Anyway, onward and upward. Hopefully we will win, again, in December.

Owen beck will be on this team. Montreal got a steal of a player in Beck. Will be one of the best players of 2022 draft.
He’s a pretty safe bet. Doesn’t have the offensive upside of a lot of other players in the draft. I would gladly throw him on the third or fourth line. He has good details to his game at only 18.

I think Logan Mailloux could bring some character and leadership to this team
Don’t think he gets an invite scandal aside. He has played a grand total of 12 hockey games since his draft and hasn’t looked particularly good in any of them. There are too many guys to choose from this year that are simply better.

Besides McTavish, it looks like Wright, Guenther, Clarke, and one of Johnston or Stankoven (potentially both) will begin the year in the NHL.

I’ll be shocked if this tournament is even broadcasted this year, and maybe going forward. I know some will write this off as fear mongering but with this push to dismantle hockey Canada and it losing all its corporate sponsors, it won’t be operating at the same scale as years past, and you know tsn is going to come under immense pressure to drop its rights to the broadcast. This is all a concerted effort to destroy hockey in Canada as a prestigious sport and take away it as a national sport. Do you truly think the WJC will be run with the same resources and same coverage it always has had with this much of a black eye over HC and all the negative publicity it’s gotten? It’s become a massive witch hunt and it doesn’t even matter if you’re a good person or not, if you represent hockey Canada going forward you’re going to be seen as someone who upholds toxic hockey culture.

Aren't the WJC and HC two different organizations? I doubt fans in other countries view the tournament as owned and operated by HC.

WJC is run by the IIHF.
And it allows organizations such as Hockey Canada to participate.

They are, but without hockey canadas participation and the coverage it receives through Tsn and all the corporate sponsors, this tournament will barely be more than the u18’s coverage wise. Look how many people on Twitter are calling for tsn to drop its broadcasting rights and calling for Canada to be kept out of iihf events.

Fair enough but is their sponsorship of the tournament necessarily support of HC? I'd hate to think that the WJC cannot be disentangled from HC and it keeps the tournament from being broadcast and it impacts the visibility it brings to the kids playing.

TSN isn't going to drop the WJC and Canada isn't going to be kicked out. Everyone needs to take a breath.
I just don’t see another likely scenario to that, tsn is going to be ostracized beyond belief if they decide to stand by HC and broadcast this tournament. How does the tournament function if every single corporate sponsor has pulled out? It won’t. I’m not saying the tournament itself won’t happen, but it won’t be advertised nearly to the extent it has been in the past and that in itself will drop viewing interest and ratings. Can HC afford to run a selection camp and house the kids for 3-4 weeks which is necessary to field a competitive team? Who will run the show if the entire hockey Canada brass is dismissed this close to the tournament? It’s all a logistical nightmare and it’s quite apparent it won’t stop here. I’d be surprised if the U17 challenge in November ends up happening first and foremost. That’s an event that’s basically incumbent upon HC running or being a major financier of it. Not to mention the amount of funding the womens programs receives from revenue derived from the WJC and other mens tournaments. But hey, this is all fine and good and will surely lead to the culture changing and nothing bad ever happening again! Just destroy the sport of hockey itself and bam, no need to worry about hockey culture ever again.

I hope so too but I don’t see how that could be the case. We can’t remove all funding and the IIHF’s largest member and expect it to be close to the same. It could just become another smallish tournament that you can find steams for online, but gone are the days of it being a big tradition and spectacle at Christmas time. Shame for the kids and future kids who will have nothing like this to try and attain or work towards.
