People expecting too much too soon for top picks.…

Wright is 18.

Byfield is 20

Lafreniere is 21.

That’s what’s going on.

Rome wasn’t built in a day.
I know and you're right. I would just love to see 1 of the 3 start living up to the hype. As you and others have said... everything in good time.

I’m in England (nice hazza lane avatar) and this game obviously won’t be broadcast here tonight, anyone have any suggestions how to watch
Do what the Bundy's do... :)

Third Line chemistry is looking fantastic, what a play by Gaucher to send it to the boards and then sneak his way open and jam it in. Great start.

I don't think the 2015 team is getting enough respect here. It didn't end up having the biggest collection of NHL superstars (outside of McDavid), but McDavid, Reinhart, Duclair, Domi, Lazar, Petan, Fabbri and Point was an absolutely lethal collection of junior aged talent at that time.
2015 was the best Canadian World Juniors team that I've witnessed, since I've been watching (starting around 2011). Connor McDavid centering the second line tells you a lot right there.

By far our worst (and only “bad”) players tonight were Clarke and Guenther. Handling the puck like a grenade, no wheels, needlessly idiotic decisions absolutely everywhere. If they’re just f***ing around in a meaningless game after coming back from the NHL, whatever. But if they’re going to look like that for a single shift once the tournament truly begins, they can sit the whole thing out.

Yeah I thought Clarke was noticeably bad with the puck on his stick. He wasn't bad defensively but carrying the puck and passing it was rough for him tonight.

Fantilli line and the 4th line were pretty unimpressive but it’s the first game.

Liked Milic, I hope he’s the guy.

As mentioned above, Clarke is surprisingly out of place. Expected some more there.

Too bad you didn't see 2005. I'm not sure we will ever see another team like that.

Fantilli was quiet… made some questionable decisions.

Ostapchuk was terrible 5on5 - good on PK though.

Bedard line should stay together - not great chemistry but the potential is there.

Roy line was elite - need to stay together In my opinion - they were dangerous all night.

Don’t like the Guenther - Stanks - Fantilli line - need someone on the wing that can attack the defence with speed. I don’t know who that could be? Reid Schaefer is who I would pick but I want someone quicker. Ostapchuk is fast but he is dumb as a brick and can’t handle a pass to save his life - maybe even just put Stanks on the wing instead of Fantilli.

The pairings were all over the place today. Will that be the norm or was it just seeing who looks the best together?

At the risk of stating the obvious, and repeating what has been said many times, Bedard looked GREAT. In the summer, I found praise of his play exaggerated - his shot was amazing but his overall impact was less impressive.

Tonight, he was everywhere. Really impressed how much better he was than (just) 4 months ago. His confidence is thru the roof.

I know it won't happen but I loved to see him and Fantilli at the WJR's in 2024. I'm betting we get one of the 2.

Canadian fans and Canadian Scouting Staff and Canadian managment at NHL levels tend to overrate our Canadian hockey players as as compared to foreign players. So, in essence, we tend to rank them higher than foreign players. This happens in the corporate environment as well as I may tend to favor my Canadian countrymen over other foreigner applicants. Lafreniere, Wright and Byfield are essentially ranked slightly higher than their foreign peers who are slightly more ready for the NHL, having played with men.

Button is awful, the worst of all tsn analyst's

I didnt think possible but miller might give button a run for the title
Button is not an analyst. He is a very passionate 'commentator', ignore his analytical remarks, listen to Mackenzie

Nothing gets people in the WJC mood like this all time classic.

Just catching up with this thread but I’m not even Canadian and I get chills whenever I sing along with this masterpiece. Chills.

He's a junior
Star of his hometown team
Got the grades, got the girl, got it all so it seems
Those big game lights in his eyes
Never felt so alive, so wild, so free

Now the fall has come and gone
He's got his country colours on
He's sittin' there in the drive with his dad and he says

When the stars line on up and you finally strike gold
When the pressures way too much
But the diamond starts to show
When your prayers get answered Gods plan unfolds
Now don't you forget to

Make mistakes
Lose your way
Get some dirt on your boots
Call your mom
Write your friends

Ones that were there for you
Remember all of them people when your dreams come true
Now don't you forget your roots

She has seen him
Givin' his heart to the game
Every night paid the price now he's finally got his break
Calls home saying, "Mom we've been
Dreaming bout this day"
Tears streaming down his face through the phone and his mama she says

When the stars line on up and you finally strike gold
When the pressures way too much
But the diamond starts to show
When your prayers get answered gods plan unfolds
Now don't you forget to

Make mistakes
Lose your way
Get some dirt on your boots
Call your mom
Write your friends

Ones that were there for you
Remember all of them people when your dreams come true
Now don't you forget your roots
Now don't you forget your roots

When your prayers get answered god's plan unfolds

Still thought Logan Stankoven had a good game with his line, he has very good work ethic, I’m sure they won’t break up that line yet he still looked good with Dylan Guenther.

Adam Fantilli looked a little absent in the game but we got two more pre-tourny games yet.

Joshua Roy, Nathan Gaucher, and Zach Dean certainly opens some eyes tonight, I’m sure not all of us thought this was the greatest third line, they looked excellent and read of each other all night, and if the fourth line is that speedy and shutdown all tournament I could see this being a great tournament for the boys.

I tuned into the USA game for a little bit, they looked really good, big smart NCAA team as always. Saw a bomb from Ryan Chesley. The packed barn in some town called Quispamsis, which as a maritimer never knew existed. lol

Great coverage of the World Juniors by TSN as always. Made this an entertainment *pre tournament* game to watch. Pretty decent attendance, looking forward to the crowd in Halifax. Ticket sellers on Facebook are calling the CAN/FIN pre-tourny game, the “Gold Medal Rematch” lol yeah we’ll see.
