WC: 2023 Sweden Roster Talk

Why aren't you including Adam Larsson in this conspiracy? I mean, why else wouldn't they wait/contact him? Sweden has no money for him, right?
Probaly, yes.

Cmon now, all that stuff will be worked out with no issues when the next top flight tournament happens...........whenever that is.
We want to have some of our stars in WC also. We could have had EP and Nylander on this team.

Everyone wants their stars of course, but the reality of this tournament is that you are not always going to get them every time every year anymore.

The days of yesteryear are firmly in the rear view mirror, fans have to accept the new reality and adjust.

In a best on best tournament you will have your stars, this isn't a best on best, far from it.
There hasn’t been a best on best for 7 years and to call that best on best an abomination would be putting it nicely. So what point is there for SIF to have more NHL calibre depth than ever when they never play for them?

The north american rhetoric is all the same ”it’s our money so screw you” which is true. But in the end this is going to mean that hockey becomes a purely north american product and that no one else cares about it. Maybe the NHL gets so little economic value out of their European fans that it really doesn’t matter. If so, than it is what it is.

What can I say? if the players don't really want to come over to play they don't want to play. This tournament just doesn't have the cache it once had........times have changed, fans attiudes
and expectations will have to change, either that or stay angry " wishing for the good old days"

You hear more and more excuses every year from the players, the will just isn't there nearly as much, they would rather have the break.

Well fair enough! they have a long season barly see their family... so it's understandable if they chose to be home with family instead of going to this boring ass tournament...

The attitude of the fans haven’t changed. Its the same. The NHL doesn’t want their players to risk injury so they fight tooth and nail to not have them play in the worlds.

It wouldn’t be boring if there were better players.

It's not all the nhl, it's the players too...............they want some time off, period.

It will change to disinterest.
I know you probably don’t care about this and the NHL definetely doesn’t. But the SIF should. In the past two years I have completely stopped attending SHL games (down from attending roughly 15 games a year) because the players I am there to watch just leave for North America and then never (Well almost) plays for Sweden again. I think many swedish fans feel the same way.

Lel if thats your reason for not going to SHL well i feel bad for you... im attending Timrå home games as often as i can! to see good hockey!

Yeah it sucks that players leave for NHL! but on the otherhand it isnt the player you support it is the team right?

And in my opinion SHL is far more funny to watch then NHL... "Becaus i feel a connection to the team i can go and see ever time they play at home"

I can understand the frustration.

A core part of fan culture in Sweden(Well all of europe) is National Team support, and when one suffer they both suffer. Like it or not but breaking the NHL monopoly has to be seen as an existential question for European hockey otherwise it WILL die.

Change the Swedish populus' perception of international hockey and the interest in the sport will naturally decline. Which of course is bad not only for Swedish hockey but hockey overall as a sport.

I doubt it will be that drastic, I think fans will adjust

umm i dont think fans will adjust to it tbf! pretty much everyone i know dont care about hockey after the season in SHL has ended or if their team has been eliminated from the playoffs.

Maybe a hockey culture problem? or should I say an adjustment in the fans mindset is in order?

Also why could Liljegren join if Dubas is the problem..

Please plug your head and think. Nylander has a year left on his contract, and according to unverified speculation, he was supposed to say goodbye to his teammates in the locker room after the fifth game against Florida. So his future in Toronto is 50/50, Liljegren will continue and also has a lower contract, which is an important fact for insurance. That there are clowns in Toronto and currently the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing...Nylander and SIF are not to blame for that. You always need two sides to negotiate, if one wants but the other doesn't, the player won't come. I believe this version of events, we will find out the truth anyway.

Om vi går ner på tre kedjor:

Jonatan Berggren - Oscar Lindberg - Jakob Silfverberg
Carl Grundström - Leo Carlsson - Lucas Raymond
Dennis Everberg - Jacob de la Rose - Marcus Sörensen

Rasmus Sandin - Timothy Liljegren
Henrik Tömmernes - Anton Lindholm
Patrik Nemeth - Lukas Bengtsson

Lars Johansson
Jesper Wallstedt

We will see in time.
I can assure you that European hockey fans will not ever adjust to NHL hockey in the middle of the night as their main source of hockey. It will just slowly die.

It wont even be possible even if you want... if you have job, kids, family etc,etc the timezone is just to big... and i dont see ppl get emotionally attatched to a team they barly or never go and see live.
