West Ham is supposedly after Barnes (or we’re earlier in the window) and I have to imagine will be more expensive than £30M.

I think Maddison can be Eriksen lite for Spurs. They've really lacked that dead ball specialist since he left, long range shooter and someone comfortable on the ball. For essentially 30M it's not a bad gamble and if it doesn't work being English he has resale value. I thought Richarlison would work for Spurs as a super sub but that didn't work out so well so Maddison might not either.

As for Winks he is not fast or strong enough to play for a top 6 side, he also isn't creative enough or can shot well enough to make up for those like a Tielemans can. He should do well for Leicester if he's healthy, he's got premier league qualities but more bottom half team. Skipp is still young so jury is still out but he needs to definitely work on some things and take another step.

What is the history on salary capping football in europe?
Honest question... never followed or looked into it.

These prices and contracts are ridiculous...

Looks like we are close to signing Pau Torres.
He's a player I used to think was overrated a couple of years ago, but right now I feel he could start for most big clubs. He's not especially useful if you tend to park the bus, but for teams that like to start play from behind he's like an extra midfielder out there. He won't come cheap though, although he's only 26 he's already a local legend for Villarreal, born and raised there (and we're talking about a town the size of Hereford). I expect they'll ask for at least 50 mil.

I get the concern for Maddison, he’s a flawed played that plays way too soft at times, but his technical skills are just way too good to turn down. I like him and I think it is a good move by the Spurs, but I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if he fails as well.

Winks and Skipp are nothing, they are only famous is because they’re English.

Winks had a brief moment in his career when he looked like England's next number 8, but his injuries ruined that. This year he wasn't even good enough for Sampdoria who finished last in the Serie A. Skipp is still young but unless he progresses dramatically I don't think he's starter material for a team with Spurs' ambition.

Yes, I think Winks ankle injuries were a huge mental block for him. He used to be a very tenacious player who was good at dribbling and didn't mind tackling. Those injuries made him a much more static, timid player, who was scared to get physical with other players. He still has his days. Had a great performance against Liverpool just last year. And AFAIK he was appreciated at Sampdoria. Bittersweet to see him go.

As for Skipp, when he came back from Norwich he was one of our best players until he got injured last year. He hasn't really reached that level again, but I'm still hopeful. I think he'll be a mainstay in the squad for a long time. But no, he's probably not going to be some superstar. Dependable option for sure.

Have to tip my hat to United's tactics - refusing to meet Chelsea's demand for Mount and now going after Caidedo when Chelsea said they won't meet Brighton's estimation
