Confirmed with Link: #NJDevils acquire Cody Glass, per Friedman

  • Xenforo Cloud is doing server maintenance Thurdsay 13th at 9 AM GMT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.
  • We are currently aware of "log in/security error" issues that are affecting some users. We apologize and ask for your patience as we try to get these issues fixed.
The points are great but Cody has really stabilized our bottom 6/full lineup. Haula playing wing now is the best possible scenario right now. Just to have another scoring center besides Hischier and Mercer is so beneficial.
Can you imagine NJ got a first line center for a third rounder?

I mean, from your screen to gods ears. I wouldn't go as far as that, but if we have a Dylan Strome situation and he can find his game...

The real player I think Cody is replacing is McLeod. I wonder if we see him on the PK soon.
He’s got the defensive chops for it. All kidding aside if he is something of a Kate bloomer and can play at a good 3C level this trade is a huge win.

He's the perfect pickup to set all the pieces in place for next season.

He can move in to the 2c role and allows Nico to play in his more natural 3c spot.
They can then resign McLeod for the 4c spot.
McLeod signing frees up Haula and he can be traded for Ryan Fitzgerald. (Looked it up, apparently the team has already picked up Ryan Fitzgerald so we don't need to trade for him. Ruined the joke.)

Dude. Props for Nico at 3C but no to McLeod. He’s going to be someone else’s problem with or without an acquittal.

Said it in the GDT, but Vegas and Nashville are two rough spots if you're trying to make your way in the league starting out.

Probably something untapped here.
I feel Vegas has done pretty alright but Nashville has been a development graveyard.
Multiple guys leaving and blooming elsewhere Tolvanen, Fabbro, maybe Tomasino too. Parssinen on his 3rd team this year. Evangelista taking a major step backward. L'Hereux struggling and scratched (Hynes is giving him heavy defensive minutes and d-zone starts as a rookie???)

Had a friend tell me "What if he is our Sam Bennett?"

Ok, early returns, I realize, but I can say this unironically right now.

Long list of players who've played here as 4th liners after being 1st round picks - Turner Stevenson, Eric Rasmussen, Steve Bernier, Michael McLeod, and of course our general manager was a 1st round pick who had to find his game as a role player. Sometimes it can take moving organizations for a player and team to figure out how they're best deployed.

Maybe I'm still in honeymoon stage, especially given Glass has a couple points early, but I think he has a legit chance at 3c, not just 4th line.

His point rate in previous seasons is meh, but above 7 per 60 in terms of shot rate with Pitt this season and Nash last season. Shot attempt rate has been trending up ward for 4 straight years as well. A very respectable 14+ per 60 with Pitt this season and 13+ last season. Needs to work on finishing but he gets shots off. I love that in a guy who is supposedly a defensive center.

So after a night of sober reflection I realize I was off base last night about Glass. Those of you who were saying "first line center" "best center in the league" or "best NHL player since Ben Lovejoy" need to do the same thing. I realize now that we have been underselling him. This guy is the best athlete in human history.

He’s the best Glass given to this world since M Night Shyamalan unveiled his version.

That's what a good 4th line center is. A guy who can hopefully play up on the 3rd line if there are injuries. The Devils need another center to play ahead of Glass.

I think Haula is going to be the fourth line center next season. If NJ keeps Glass it likely means he had a nice finish to the season and they are probably going to have to pay him something around his qualifying offer. At approximately $2.5 mil they can't really swing a more expensive 3C (unless you count Hischier in that role but I digress). The cap will be tight next year with a Luke extension. I know folks were hoping for less than $9 mil per, but I expect it to be closer to $10 mil per. They are still constrained for another year until they can get rid of Palat and Haula both.
