Last season Savard had 5.91 shots blocked per 60 minutes on average. This season after 8 games, his average per 60 is 12.41. :skeptic:

Three of the Ds are blocking more shots per 60 on average after 8 games than every Dmen on the team did last season (Savard, Harris and Ghule). This is a big difference defensively.

Savard was exhausted after the SC Finals in July. Took him time to recover and try to adapt to Habs (Ducharme's) system.

He never went over 6.90 shots blocked per 60 in his career until now thought.

If he keeps it above 9.5 this season, he's top 1 for a Habs player since 2000-2001 (I didn't check farther). I also discovered that the Habs used to block a lot more shots in the 2000-2014 era.

I've watched 3 of their games. They are stinking, especially the PP. Reinhart is terribad right now.

Huberdeau was a huge piece on the PP for them. M Tkachuk is not the same type of forward.

Loosing Weeger as well hurt their RD side. Now Ekblad is out 4-6 weeks. Their team D and PP is nowhere near as strong as it was last year.

Their team confidence is probably low at the moment. I see them playing 0.500 hockey ish at best.

I'm pretty sure the Habs will fall out of the race at some point.....but our division is crazy so far.
Habs are 20th in the NHL with Tampa, yet, deadlast of our division.

1 point between last and 2nd place.

Barkov is missing Huberdeau too.

Blocked shots is not everything. he is playing way more solid hockey + he is helping Guhle a lot in his transition to NHL level hockey.

Only ~8 games played, Metro and Central have two crap teams each. Pacific has like 5. It helps creating separation between teams.

And the Habs were never going to suck as much as last year with the record breaking amount of injuries they had.

Sigh. The bottom 3 desired finish feels like a pipe dream at this point. It's like a rinse and repeat with this team.
When we absolutely should be finishing bottom 3, because we are supposed to be a terrible, is the year we won’t. We should almost wish for non major injuries to our key players for the reminder of the season. Without a legitimate #1 centermen and dmen, we aren’t winning the cup. Let’s hope Florida misses the playoffs.

So I've been looking at team stats on moneypuck and guess what team leads the league in giveaways.

Yes, it's your Habs! 120 of them so far. 20 more than the next team and 80% of them are in the dzone.

If anyone are wondering, I had to go back to 2014-2015 for the Habs to not be in the "top 2" at giveaways, but they were back there in 2012-2013...and the team seems to like the top 4 in that category (stats goes back to 2008-2009).

Something the coaches should really be working on I think.
