If it has to end I just want it to end with Bill walking up to his post-game presser with a napkin containing a handwritten note saying "I resign as HC of NE."

Can anyone confirm the Pats worst case scenario draft position? I read they can do no worse than 7th. I heard on EEI last night that 5th is their worst case.
I think they could technically fall to 7th but it would be tough because the Patriots have a decent SOS tiebreaker advantage against the Chargers and Titans right now.

If the Patriots win, the most likely pick I think would be 5th (assuming Arizona loses to Seattle and NYG loses to Philadelphia).

Even with a win, the lowest they can fall is 5th and 4th isn't unrealistic. You can play around with this tool to see the various scenarios for Draft Order, depending on who wins this week. Free NFL Playoff Predictor 2023-2024

A lot of people don't like this guy but the most qualified, most likely available HC the Patriots can hire is Jim Harbaugh. I have seen Vrabel mentioned if he wants out of Tennessee but Harbaugh's resume is far superior to Vrabel's. And Harbaugh just signed on with Don Yee. It's likely he wants back in the NFL unless Michigan blows him away.

Im happy to keep Bill or go with another like McDaniels who I always thought would be the successor. As long as the toxic overrated Alabama stuff is long gone next year and they play more as a team like they have the past few weeks. The Pats have always been a team modeled to a do your job mentality, not a blame game to cover up the worst arm in the league and possibly Patriots history. It would be a shame to see 20 plus years destroyed to avenge the noodle arm

Zappe as a QB is better than McDaniels as a HC

McCarthy from Michigan intrigues me because he has a good arm, athletic, winning/leadership qualities. Plus he doesn't have the offensive weapons around him like someone like Penix. It's just very difficult to make a firm analysis on him because of the type of offense Michigan runs. It's built around that OL and Blake Corum. McCarthy is still a little slender though, maybe that's his biggest weakness. I do think he has the arm and athleticism to be a good QB.

I am so so happy this Herald story broke. Not because I want it to end like this for Bill but because it might take a story like this to get any hangers on, including Bob Kraft, to say enough is enough.

I'm not disputing any of this, and I would have fired Belichick last offseason, but this team is playing really hard for him right now despite this season being a total f***ing disaster. Whatever dysfunction is clearly there he hasn't lost the room.

Not enough of a reason to keep him (and the very existence of this piece tells me he's definitely gone one way or another), but I don't think it's that bad behind the scenes.

I'm sure there were disputes and public arguments between coaches and staff during the winning years too.

The fact he wanted to keep Patricia as the OC and wouldn't let O'Brien hire his own staff is pretty damning. Reminds me of Leia's warning to the Grand Moff. "The more you tighten your grip, Tarkin, the more star systems will slip through your fingers."

The more control Belichick tried to keep the worse things got. He will be his own undoing.

Penix was throwing accurate deep balls into tight NFL windows and was putting some serious heat behind his throws. He's also very mobile in the pocket which is something the Patriots desperately need. I like both of em, but I am 100% behind the Patriots getting Penix now than any other guy. Kid has an arm like Warren Moon. That includes Jayden Daniels, who I really like as well. Patriots haven't gone wrong with a QB from a college in Washington before. I don't think taking another one will lead them wrong now.

Not disagreeing that it's time for Belichick to move on, but man there's going to be a lot of "be careful what you wish for" here when he is gone
You think so?

Someone else needs to shop for the groceries. It’s been that way for some time now. No one will EVER be nostalgic over Bill Belichick the GM. I’m certain of that.

Belichick the GM is getting underrated now with the team struggling but he consistently found talent in all positions both in the draft and FA/trades in the 20 year run.
