Ok but what does that have to do with starting this pitcher tonight? Why bother?
They needed a damn spot starter who wouldn't trigger any options or risk waivers for someone more valuable to the organization because of injuries and double headers and who they could get off of the 40 man as easily as he got on it due to Duval coming back. Given the players in the organization with enough rest days to actually show up and pitch and fulfill all the criteria above. He's the only one who could fit. Just unfortunate that it became a sideshow because of his twitter history. The decision for the pitcher tonight is absolutely and inextricably connected to Duval due to come off the IL tomorrow.

Someone already mentioned Pivetta. Or a bullpen game. Or let Kluber get his ass kicked again. There's just no reason to start this random bum when you know the scrutiny that will come with it. The Red Sox enabled the sideshow to happen.

In the end this will only be a brief blurb in Chaim's epitaph. He can then go back to being the Dwight Schrute in Tampa.

Verdugo has himself to blame. You're an adult. You not hussling to the base shows how much growing up you still have to do. It's unfortunate because we need him. But Cora had to set an example.

The Dermody situation is dumb. But its over now. Happy Duvall will be back tomorrow.

They need to cut bait with Kluber now. It's embarrassing.

My problem with benching Verdugo is that he’s one of the guys who actually usually does hustle down the line. If I had a nickel for every time Devers dogged it I would own the team. Selective managing. I don’t like it. Cora hasn’t impressed me with his decision making.

Biggest culprits for the skid are Devers and bad defense. Devers is hitting like a backup infielder the last month. He makes $300 million now. It’s time to play like it. Can’t have these extended periods of downright bad play. 6 games against the Yankees coming up. They will be without Judge for at least the first 3. Cole is going game 1 so that will be tough. Win the series and use it as a turning point to get back on track. Lose them and start laying the groundwork for selling.

At least Verdugo was smart enough not to speak.
As for the rest of it, welcome to Bloomland, where we don't have enough competent relievers for a bullpen game, and we don't have starting pitching in the high minors either.

No, he's not.

Yes, Devers doesn't always run hard down the line. Papi almost never did. That doesn't excuse Verdugo. Besides, he wasn't benched for not hustling down the line. He was benched for going to 2nd on a groundball and not sliding on a very close play.

Even with Judge not playing, I'd say it's even money on Sox getting swept this weekend.

When your 29th in Fielding Percentage, 29th in Errors, 23rd in Quality Starts, 26th in ERA and 21st in WHIP, I think an additional bat in the lineup is the least of your concerns.....

When you gotta score 6+ runs every night to have a chance to win, the offense isn't the problem.
They also haven’t hit with any power in a month so that’s an issue currently.

He really is and he has been running balls out consistently this year, it’s noticeable and if you don’t see that I don’t know what to tell you. If anything that was more of a brain fart than anything else, he was looking back to see the play develop when he should’ve just kept his head down and ran with 2 outs

Dude just had a hustle double a few days ago

Here’s an article talking about Verdugo hustling from a few weeks ago.

Believe whatever you’d like though
