The MLB seems pretty watered down this year for the most part. The Mets are absolutely abysmal but yet 1.5 games out of a play-off spot. I know its only 20% over or whatever but guessing the last wild card in each league will only need about 84 wins or so

which I love because I hate the Yankees.

This is a year you wish you had the 19 games, because it's going to make up any ground on Tampa now,
At this point I’m not sure it’s possible to make up ground on them under any format

RIP Vida Blue, it was great to watch you pitch with the A's!.
Wasn't he sold to the Red Sox in the mid-70's only to have Bowie Kuhn void the deal ????

EDIT: Well I was close - on June 15th 1975 Oakland owner Charlie Finley sold the contracts of OF Joe Rudi and Reliever Rollie Fingers to Boston for $1 million apiece and Pitcher Vida Blue to the NY Yankees for $1.5 million. MLB Commissioner Bowie Kuhn voided both deals 3 days later by using the " in the best interests of the game " clause for the first time since the Black Sox scandal in 1919.

Yeah I was just about to post that article. 😊
I had forgotten all about that, good catch!
I was an A's fan back then for a very long time. My big sister loved the Red Sox, she was a big Yaz fan.

@BostonBob - you are off by a year - that happened in 1976

The Red Sox GM Dick O'Connell made the deal because Tom Yawkey was dying and passed away on July 9, 1976.

Yup - nice catch Fenway. :thumbu: Another very interesting thing about this whole scenario - Boston was in Oakland for an 8:05 pm game when the " deal " went down at 7:51 pm. Even though Fingers and Rudi were in the Red Sox dressing room meeting their new teammates O'Connell and Red Sox Manager Darrell Johnson decided not to dress either player for the game. The next day Kuhn contacted the A's, Red Sox and Yankees and told them that none of the players could play with their new teams until he had made an official ruling. You have to wonder what Kuhn would have done if Rudi and/or Fingers had actually played that June 15th game. :dunno:

Charlie Finley in 1976 was plotting to move the A's to his hometown of Chicago gambling that Bill Veeck would be forced to sell the White Sox to Denver. Finley knew moving to Oakland in 1968 was a mistake when only 5,000 showed up at the team's second game there.

Wait, if he is the new Braiser, why is the old one still here. Braiser has got to have some pics of someone.

I've been saying this for years now. He definitely has some blackmail on the brass because it's mind blowing why he's still here

Braiser is the reason you don't go by stats alone. The eye test shows he is good about 1 out every 8 appearances. I figured they learned their lesson with the Panda but obviously not.

I figure Paxton will be crap at least 2 starts before he gets in a groove. By then however he could be back on the IL.

I admit however that the team is entertaining and can beat anyone when the bats are good. C'mon Cassas you can hit for average. He has a really good eye but needs to take a bit different approach at the plate. He is actually starting to show up the umps with his calling his own balls and strikes.

Last point, don't root too fast for robot umps. Was watching highlights from an independent game and there were strikes called a foot out of the zone. They should be dialed in around 2 years from now, hopefully.

Damn Chaim bested 2 teams in 1 trade wow. Winckowski over Lee was a hell of a call that many questioned at the time

Brasier's career ERA with Boston is 3.78. 7-8 with 9 saves.

He comes cheap, can pitch every day, doesn't complain, has a good sense of humor, loves dogs and babies.
