Starting to think you're related to Joe Mazzula.
He's not wrong, though. It is a common belief that NBA coaches don't have much influence on the games at all, isn't it? They need to do fundamental stuff such as moderating and keeping the the locker room in check. Does anyone think Lebron listened to Vogel or Lue on the court?
What the Celtics are experiencing isn't anything that hasn't happened before under many other coaches like Stevens and Udoka. These "1 freakish quarter" has been a thing for many, many years (it's not a timeout thing). As much as turning the balls over late in the games and blowing big leads.
I don't know if it's the biggest issue, but after hearing how Smart speaks of himself, I really can't see this team winning a title with Marcus acting like their 2nd or 3rd best player on the team.
But in general: What if this core (JB and JT) are merely good enough to win only one title, but it doesn't happen for 2-3-4 more years?! Would that be a disappointing in retrospect? Probably, but some other superstars haven't fared much better. It took Dirk so long to win one, same as Garnett. It took Durant joining a 72 win team to win 2 titles.
Jokic isn't there, yet. Other recent MVPs such as Westbrook, Harden and Rose didn't come close.
Giannis and Kawhi (as the #1) needed fortunate events to occur.
And the Celtics don't even have an MVP on their team (yet).
