If the Bruins send Zboril to the minors, they would have a 21 man roster and $1.56m in cap space, meaning they could call up 2 guys making $775k to get to a 23 man roster, and still be compliant...

So any two of…
Lauko, McLaughlin, Richard, Megna
Regula, Walsh, Wotherspoon, Renouf

If Debrusk doesn't want to resign:

Hanifin + Lindholm for Debrusk + Gryz + 2025 1st

Move Forbort or send him down to the minors
Cap compliant and in great shape for 2023-2024 season

I'm all for it, but I expect Calgary would want one of Poitras, Lysell, or Lohrei added.

Everyone remembers that Sweeney wanted to trade up to get Hanifin in his draft year (2015). In addition, in 2013, Chiarelli allegedly had a deal agreed with Calgary that would have seen Seguin + Peverly to Calgary for their #6 OV + Sven Baertschi + other(s). However, Carolina took Lindholm one pick prior, so the deal was off.

So it would be quite ironic to acquire both Hanifin + Lindholm.

I think Lauko makes the team full-time this year.

Unfortunately, that's not how I remember it.

Golds going to have to earn his check again this year with the paper transactions to make sure they have some breathing room at the deadline to make an add if it seems like we can go on a run

Why Zboril? I give him a shot. I waive Forbort.

Both are UFA after this season.

Keeping Zboril over Forbort is a gain of just $12,500 in terms of cap space. Essentially no gain at all in the big picture.

Forbort has 493 games of NHL experience compared to Zboril's 76.

That's why you keep Forbort over Zboril. I'd value experience on the back-end come playoff time. Then-rookie Jeremy Lauzon in the 2021 playoffs still gives me nightmares.

I get it. Personally, I’d value anyone other than Derek Forbort playing in the playoffs for this team, but to each their own.

Zboril, through injury, covid, poor play and poor coaching has had little opportunity to get into the lineup on the regular. I feel there's some untapped talent there.

Forbort , we know what he is. I think they should move on from him if they could.

Ranold, do you expect Sweeney to make a trade before game 1?
Not sure, but I’d be surprised if he pulled a big trade before the season starts. I think the Bruins will go with their current roster and see how the start of the season goes. Krejci is my only wild card before the season, etc..
If the Bruins start the season well, they’ll likely bank cap space for something to happen later near the trade deadline etc.
If the Bruins struggle from the start of the season, then I think you might see decent hockey trade to address needs.
Remember, our G and D are basically the same from most of last season. So there is a good chance that we could be somewhat decent.
If face-offs, possession percentage, turnovers, penalty killing and scoring is affecting our results, then something will happen likely sooner than later.
So I don’t expect anything significant before the season, but stranger things have happened.

I hope we get a definitive yes or no from Krejci soon. I don’t like having my hopes so high.

I'm not a big Forbort fan either. But experience for D-men is key.

And I don't see anything there with Zboril (I've never been a fan either going back to his last WJC) and he's been given a lot of chances here and hasn't made a case for a full-time job. Even as far back as 2021 he was one of the young D they wanted to give opportunities to when they explained to Chara what they wanted his role to be (and he went to the Caps). He didn't grab it then despite having a head-start having played in Europe that Nov/Dec.

The fact they sat him for basically an entire 3 months speaks volumes.

He did play well at the most recent World Championships for the Czechs. How much that translates I have no idea.

I'd love a left-shot D-man who is both better and cheaper than Forbort.

Sweeney really did some sneaky good signings as far as I’m concerned.

Fredric (25)
Geekie (25)
Boqvist (24)
Wotherspoon (25)

These players are all players that I feel like could take the next step.

I thought about Wortherspoon yesterday, At 775k, they could carry him and have a 23-man roster and be cap compliant (just barely though, 4k).

The difference between his salary and Zboril's may make him the better option. Same ages, same draft year.

Anyways good timing for me. I'm heading out on a 3-week camping trip just as the Bruins basically clue up their off-season business. Hope everyone enjoys the rest of the summer and early fall getting ready for the new hockey season!

Cheers!
