Three years difference is huge.

I’m not overrating McAvoy due to “stats” - his last two healthy years (before this one) he was top 5 in the Norris voting despite not scoring a ton of points. Who’s comparing him to Orr?

This is so weird.
My point is Chuckie is good not great yet is getting paid $9.5M and you seem to have a problem paying a a good not great centre $9.5M a year in the same vein contribution wise especially when we have bare cupboards in that needed position. I'd trade Chuckie + spare parts for Lindholm (Calgary version) and Hanifin in a red hot second.

McAvoy is absolutely great

Not in my mind, he's good to very good. I use the word "great" for special players.
Like top 5 defenseman in the league? Because he was top 5 in Norris votes in back to back years

If you’re a #1 defenseman in this league you are an elite talent. Those do not grow on trees and while I do see some merit in the deal you proposed I do not think McAvoy is merely good or overpaid in any way.

'Chuckie' has a NMC anyway

You can't believe everything you read. Mac is good , not that good.
Ahh disagree here, I think Mac where he's currently signed is a good deal, this issue where the '3 years isn't a big deal' actually is. Mcavoy is 25, his big deal runs out after the 2029/2030 season when he will be 32 years old, not 37.

Marchand is a depreciating asset.

If Boston is going to keep him and ride it to the end then they might as well go out and get a guy like Lindholm (assuming there are no other 1Cs available that haven't been made public)and maximize his remaining year(s?) as a legitimate top 6er.

Either go for it again and empty the already bare cupboards or sell.

I would've been ok selling a few seasons back as I've said multiple times. With hindsight I would've missed out on a record setting regular season and a first round knockout but that's a miss id be ok with.
Bruins are going out the way the Wings did, keep everyone until they retire. No assets. Wont be as bad as that, but they are definitely headed for some lean years.

Who would you be willing to give up not give up?
Look, I'm not giving up Zacha, Poitras and Lohrie for Lindolm and an overaged cap dump, that's f***ing nuts. How many good years does Linholm have left,
3 maybe 4 and the return is gonna be 25 years worth of NHL players? Why the f*** would the Bruins be interested in Kevin Rooney ? GTFO.

You gotta give to get but the Flames are not in a position of strength. You also can't be looking to abuse them because then you end up empty handed like the Habs did in the PLD pursuit. The Flames are struggling , as are a few teams in Canada, to retain players. Hanifin who is not willing to sign a new deal with the Flames would fit in nicely in Boston. So I have been beating the drum on acquiring both Linholm and Hannifin. That deal starts with DeBrusk, someone who is from Alberta, has family in Alberta and probably wouldn't be as adverse to signing there. Would it be ideal to trade DeBrusk? Of course not but offering guys like TFred who are not likely to re-sign there are likely to be of little interest to the Flames. Maybe Ullmark who maybe can deal with the colder weather given where he's from, might be of interest if your willing to take one of their goalie's off their hands. (preferably Vladar) throw in 2025 1st and as many as they want of Grizz,Forbort and Zboril (probably none of interest to the Flames but worth a try) any prospect(s) not named Lohrie,Poitras and Lysell . A tweak here and a tweak there and a deal could be had.

The Bruins will have money to spend next season, I'd like them to spend it on proven players like Linholm and Hanifin. However, not at any cost.

The Bruins have zero blue-chip prospects. They do however potentially have several 2 line/pairing level players.

Lohrie
Poitras
Lysell
Merkulov

Guys like Harrison, McLaughlin and Beecher are potentially 3rd and 4th line guys. I'd make anyone of them available in any deal.

So there you have it , that's the frame work. If it's not enough so be it . Ride out the season .

I was referring to him being a top 5 D. He's up there but not that high. Certainly didn't look anywhere close to that in the PO's .

The thing with him is that he can't go to the AHL . He isn't likely going to further develop his game in the OHL. If there is any hint that he might be ready I'd give him his 9 games. Especially if Bergy's replacement doesn't emerge.
I’m still waiting for the list of players you think are better than coyle and make less or equal…
